Section for Big Buy-in poker

Everything here seems to be centered around smaller buy-in games. It seems every other post is about PP $25 NL game. I realize there are a large amount of people that play at this level but i think FTR is missing out on getting discussion going on higher limit and NL games that are very popular at alot of sites. The strategies and theories are often different at these stakes and would be good to get some discussion going on.

Do you think this warrants its own forum? Would topics within the existing NLHE / LHE forums not be enough? I'd be happy to set it up if enough people want it.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

Do we have a community big enough for high stakes?

I think it'd be better to put micro stakes in it's own forum and have decent to high stakes it's own. Micro could be 25NL and under and .5/1 and under.

I would suggest a micro limit fourm here long before a high limit forum. Part of what makes this site good is it caters to lower limit player.

i know this site caters to smaller limit players thats excately my point. thats why i think we should possibly have one section that caters to higher limit players. i started reading this site when i played at the smaller limits but i have moved up in limits through time as im guessing many other players have too. when i used to play at the PP $25 and $50 NL tables i used tricks that were so successful there but then when i moved up to $100 and $200 these same moves didnt work at all and hurt my bankroll during the adjustment period. i just think it might help some players out in moving up to higher games.

I'm ok with the setup right now.

People normalyl just state the level of play in prefacing their initial post anyway, so everyone knows what type of stakes are being played. I don't see a need for a "high stakes" forum.

Maybe we should put it to a poll. On the one hand I'd like to hear more about changing strategy w/ the stakes. On the other hand there might not be enough material in this community to devote a separate forum to this.

I was just thinking we could do things such as listing good higher-stakes online games as they are tougher to find, write about transitioning to a level where you can really pad your bank account some, moves that used to work at old levels that dont work anymore (i know these took me a while and alot of money to learn). Also maybe a site listing of the tough players at these levels as there are more of them. I have something like this for my games i play so i know wich tables to avoid and wich to sit at. There are many more strong players at $2-4 NL then the $25 PP game that i used to play at.

I am just throwing ideas out there guys...maybe i am alone on this but could prove to be very profitable for some people and maybe help attract more people to FTR.

Sounds interesting to me, i'm sure most people on the forum want to achieve these high limits at some point. If you want high stakes limit strategy i think Fnord has that area quite well covered but i'd like to hear some NL strategy.

I dont think there are enough high stakes players to justify its own forum.

A middle-high forum is another matter completely.

I generally frown upon these kinds of forum split ups, but I think this one is worth atleast an evaluation.

I vote: no new forums. There are too many already. It's just going to make browsing more difficult.

But I'm not sure how much usage a forum like this would get, or if it would attract high-buyin players to the site. If it did though, that would rock.

The idea of maybe attracting high buyin players is an attractive thought.

I think the best way to go may be to start making posts along these lines and seeing what the response is like, usually forums are created once a decent amount of material has already been written and it is then sorted into the new forum, i don't see why you should hold back from posting just because you don't have your own section.

ok well once i actually get a minute at work ill sit down and post some questions that i have been wanting to ask some other bigger buy in players. Ill just post in the NL and Limit hold'em sections and we will see how popular they are i guess... thanks guys!

I don't see how having a high buy-in section would complicate things....you could simply do a "High Stakes" section that would encompass Limit, NL and high buy-in Tournaments of $100-150+
A section like this may draw new Big Buy-in poker players increasing all of our knowledge base. For selfish reasons I would love to draw big players from the pocketfives.com list to post here. As it stands we really don't have much to offer the uber-successful big money player. If FTR could become "home" to players like brsavage and nsxt1, we could potentially reap great benefits from such an arrangement. If it is not successful then delete it, but where is the harm in trying?

Although I'm sure the majority of those votes are from people that are more interested in reading posts in a high limit forum rather than actually being able to contribute.

That's my fear as well. Do we currently have many threads specifically talking about high-stakes Hold'em? I usually like to see certain topics develop and grow in numbers within existing forums before devoting a new forum to them.

If we have a new high-stakes Hold'em forum, will we have enough people contributing to it (as opposed to lurkers just reading about the rich folk)?

Sometimes you have to make the step or accomodations to grow even if there is not a large demand for it right now...."if you build it they will come"
Currently there are sections that get very little use, and this may end up being one of those sections, however I think the risk is worth the potential reward...especially since there really is no risk, if it doesn't go anywhere then delete the section and move the small number if posts to another section.

Hey all, I think we should add it. Ilikeaces can be our mascot and residing pro! I dont see any real cons about adding an extra forum for high stakes beyond us looking like nerds for having no posts in there at first. The only direction it could go is up.
