What do you consider the best bang for your buck?

I'm having some difficulty in building up my bankroll. As it stands, I've tried all sorts of different tactics at different times, trying to get a good handle on what generally works where. But what I'm still having trouble figuring out is where my money is best invested.

I normally play at Pokerroom, and I've had some good results in the MTTs (4 tourneys, 1 early bust, 2 14ths and a 6th), and moderate success at SnG's (5 Sngs, 2 2nds and a third). I do seem to have some difficulty finishing off a tourney, but thats for another post. Ring games....still a bit of a mystery to me. I've been up 3x my starting buyin, and i've lost my buyin in the next three hands.

If you just sat down and said, "Today I'm going to make some easy money.", where do you prefer to go, what limit do you like, and what kind of game do you play when you are determined to get the most return for your time and investment?

Well, this all depends on your preference and what works best for you as an individual. Your sample size is no where big enough for tournaments to go out on a limb and say that you strictly like to play tournaments for their return.

Based on what you wrote, it seems that your preference is indeed to play tournaments, which I personally prefer to ring games. One thing to keep in mind is that the varience in MTT is huge, so do not expect to make every final table or even finish ITM every time.

To answer the rest of your question, I mostly play SNG holdem tournaments and 6 max limit ring games. Lately, I have found the "easy" money to be made in Pot Limit Omaha. To that end, there is no "easy" money to be made, you need to sharpen your skills at the game, which takes experience and will involve some down swings.

I will also note that if you are losing your buy in over three hands, you have huge leaks in your game that need help. Post some hands and we can evaluate.

I prefer ring games myself. I feel like there are more fish and like being able to leave whenever I want. Currently the most profitable stakes (I play NL, so limits isn't really accurate) for me are $0.10/$0.25, but I suspect that's largely due to my limited BR and my choice of play (at UB, since I have a ton of Bonus $$ left to clear, which I've heard has less passive players than many other sites). I feel like I can outplay almost anyone that plays at my stakes, so that's clearly profitable. I don't have the $$$ to absorb losses from stakes any greater than where I'm playing; if I did, I'm sure that another step or two up the chain would be my sweet spot.

I guess that's another question that I have. I've seen people post their hands, but where did they get the info? Did they just cut and paste from the window at the time, or are they using some kind of software as I've heard mention of?

The buyin I was speaking of, I dont really think I played incorrectly, just perhaps still rookie reliance on top two pair. AQs, bet big, was called. Flop was AKQ. Bet big, was called. Rinse wash and repeat for two rags, losing 30 of my 62 to pocket kings. No reraises on his part to tip me off to trips...not much else to say. Went on full tilt, and lost the next two hands before I decided to sit this one out.

I'm in a similar spot, badly under BR. Its payday, so that'll help, but I was hoping to grow it more on its own than to keep investing. Just rookie optimism I'm sure.

Do a search for "bonus whoring". Some people use it as a way to build their BR. It takes some cash to invest though.

I'm not sure how to get your hand histories at pokerroom. PartyPoker has an automatic dl feature and PokerTracker developed a program that will download the histories for you from UB.

Something to think about in building your bankroll: Bonus whoring. If you break even for a while this can end up making that into a decent profit while you're learning. FTR has some sites you can sign up at where you get Bonus $$$ and FTR gets referral $$ too (further there are a number of players who would help you out getting added bonus for referral situations).

I'd pick one game and work on that. Whether it be limit, NL, sng's or mtt, make sure you probably manage your bankroll.
