    Default NASA's Redneck Adventure?

    http://www.cnn.com/2005/TECH/space/0....ap/index.html

so lets shoot a rocket at a comet just for shits and giggles, and ohh yeah we plan to study to core of the rocket to learn more about life. You have to wonder how long those NASA and JPL guys have been in seclusion.

We really don't know whats going to happen, but it will be cool.

Last time I checked doing something doing something without knowing the outcome or consequences is reckless and often doesn't yield positive results. As for trajectory implications, there are inumerable mathmatical equations, even a fraction of an inch could have a tremendous impact.

Just seems like a redneck who shoots his buddy in the ass to see what happens, he's pretty sure his buddy wont die. I thought stuff like this only came from hollywood movies

I wouldn't worry about them causing the comet to come flying towards earth. I read that the impact of the rocket is something like a fly hitting your windscreen.

how much you want to bet that this idea started with...

"hold my beer/sliderule and watch this"

    7 years of waiting
Millions of dollars spent on getting this probe to Saturn's moon Titan

and some numnut forgot to turn it on before it left.... priceless

    himself fucker.
"The rocket Deep Impact collided with the celestial ice-ball, yesterday, releasing 47.5 tons of pure 14K gold into the deep space. NASA has now deployed a huge-ass net to go collect the particals of riches quoting, "Who's laughing now? Who said it was reckless now?! Now, if you'll excuse me. I've got to go call my baby's momma and tell her the good news." The mounds of gold that will be salvaged and returned to the planet will be divided up amungst those who did not likened the mission to "... a redneck who shoots his buddy in the ass to see what happens." Who are we to question NASA now?" ---CNN article from 7/5/05.

i'm not worried about it hitting eart, i'm sure their is a very small likeleyhood of that, however with the little amount of knowledge we have of even our solar system, we don't really know the effect, And it will be a bit more then a fly hitting you, I don't think you ever lost a larger chunk of your thigh from running into a fly right?

23,000 MPH is not to slow, even if the comet is travelling at twice the velocity of the rocket the impact will still have a large effect.

I got it though, its all a cover up story, they have to do this because the comet is heading for earth, so instead of panic, we get a science experiment akin to somethign Wiley Coyote would attempt.

Well, I've got a nice study desk I go hide under when the rocket fails to save our lives.

i'm becoming a mountain hermit, when the ice caps melt from the impact I will have ocean front property, I am also launching my Super Cosmo's Comet Insurance for Paranoind Conspiracy theorists.
