Yeah, there just wasn't any kind of info in that first post that could give us anything to answer your question. It sounds like you just didn't get the cards, and I think we've all been there.
In Jes Gru's first home tourney I finished 2nd out of 20 players. He had another one last week with 18 players and I was one of the first people out, including rebuying the one time you can in the first two hours. Played for 2 1/2 - 3 hours, and I never won one single hand. I never had any pocket pair, and the best preflop hand I had was AJ once, which entirely missed the board. Plus, I only had top pair once, on my last hand where I called an all in as a rather small stack and lost to a flush draw.
It was frustrating, because besides Jes Gru and one or two other guys, everyone else is extremely new to the game and doesn't really know what they're doing. But in a way that does make it more difficult, as you have to have the cards to win hands as nearly every hand is called down to a showdown.
