    Default recognizing/controlling tilt?

hey, i've been reading for awhile, have a question (my first post!).

I don't think i'm a terrible player, but I do think i go on tilt too easily. When i'm level-headed and cool and whatnot, i can get about $50 over an hour or so playing lowstakes NL tourneys (in the tourneys, when i'm not on tilt, i actually get 1st about 1/2 the time, second place only a handful of times, and I don't think I've ever gotten 3rd.. i usually play tight, perhaps too tight and wait too long to try to build my stacks and usually get bullied out by the large stacks & bad cards/luck in 5th place or so or by the blinds + bad cards/luck in extremely tight games) and PL Omaha H/L ring games... but then i go on tilt after a string of bad beats and lose $70 before I quit.

    Any suggestions?

searching the forums is helpful. Most topics have already been covered pretty well.

For ease I've done a search also.

Last night I was in a live MTT, I was delt AA about the 4th hand. I raised big pre-flop and had 3 callers. The flop came with all unders, no pair, but 3 to a suit. I didn't have that suit so I raised bigger. I tried to fit my raise that a flush draw would fold, but a made flush would re-raise. I only got 2 callers, no re-raisers. The turn brought 4 to a suit. I checked, 1 guy went all-in and I folded. I was kinda upset. I hope that guy had AK and mad the nut flush.I played for a while longer and won a few more pots. Getting almost up to where I started.

I was delt AA again. I raised big pre-flop again. The flop came 3 7 T rainbow. The pot was a good size, and I was still a little mad about my previous AA. I went all-in to take it down. Everyone folded, then the last person called! He had 97o. He caught another 7 on the river. ARRRRRG!

He's so stupid. I can't believe I paid him with that.

Needless to say, I was on a pretty heavy tilt. I left and went home. I forced myself not to go online and play poker. I watched TV and went to bed.

That's how I avoid tilt, I stay away from the game for a while. It usually doesn't take that long.
I don't know what they have to say
    It makes no difference anyway.
    Whatever it is...
    I'm against it.

I know I am on a tilt when my mind says "You know this is a bad call/ raise" or when you feel like you need to bluff-away to boost your ego

    My Final Tip

About 10 years ago, I produced an audio cassette tape called Positive Poker. It surprisingly sold many thousands of copies. I say “surprisingly” because the entire tape was merely a pep talk, urging you to play your best game all the time. Nothing more. I called that the biggest secret in poker — and it is.

I’ll say it again. Once you understand how to win at poker, the biggest secret to actually winning is to simply play your best game all the time. Sure, I know, everyone seems to go on tilt around you sometimes — even world-class players. In fact, they take turns.

And that brings us to my final tip. When everyone at your table seems to be taking turns going on tilt, so it all equals out — pass your turn.

Yes, pass your turn — and then you’ll win. Goodbye.
