Default New member and trips flush draw beat on full house

    Hi there,

I`m a new member from the UK and would like to firstly say a warm hello from Britain to all members.

A quick elevator pitch about me and my poker.

I have been playing for about 5 years on and off, I have had times were I haven`t played for 6 months. At first I was a recreational player, I still am but seriously keen on getting better at poker, and especially in the last 6 months have really put some effort into it, lots of reading, buying books, and am getting through them. I would say I am an average player at the moment with flashes of great play, but my bad play is making my good play suffer, I have definate problems that need fixing before I can actually start to make any money. Currently I`m down about $1,800 on PKR Network, live poker I have won around $1,200 in live poker, so I guess overall things aren`t that bad, with online poker I tend to win say $700 and then manage to tilt it away with unbelievable bad beats and then the frustration follows - Tilt

Take today for instance, I left PKR 2 days ago after 5 years, it`s the 3d interface that had me hooked. I created a Poker Stars Account and won a 27 man $7 tournament first game, I deposited $60 and last night was on $123. Today I have played in 3 tournaments, the first was an $8 / 10k gauranteed, I was 8th out of 2000 people, then walked into a similar situation to the one I have posted below, this damaged me so much I ended up going out outside the money, I played another 27 man $7 tournament and bubbled it, then played a $2 / 8k tournament and was doing great until I walked into the below hand.

I`m sure this is going to be the first of many posts while I try to expel the Demons from my poker, but for now I just really do appreciate any comments or help the group can offer me

I feel like I can`t get away from having my chips all in on a hand like the below one, trips and flush draw..............what is the correct way to handle this situation, it`s stung me twice big time and cost me dearly !!

My hand was Q 3 both hearts, the other guys was jq off suit

hey welcome to FTR, if you mostly play tournaments posting in the MTT forum might be better.

if you post the raw HH someone can convert it (i think you need 10 posts to convert it yourself) knowing the suits on board is important.

why are you raising Q3s in HJ? first fold pre!!! Especially be careful in these spots because blind's stacks are almost ideal for a 3bet shove.

as played your raise on flop/turn is to big, your going to fold out lots of hands that you want calling.

some of the hand might depend on suits but I'm definitely folding river. i doubt he floated to bluff river and even if he was calling with draws lots got there. he's just checking back river with almost any hand that has showdown value.

I was going to post it in the MTT thread then thought I was more of a beginner perhaps !

Looking back at it, I just thought to myself why the hell did I raise that hand in middle position, then I remembered I was trying to steal blinds

It was working well up until that point !

    What is HJ ??

    Thanks for the reply

The suits were I had 4 Q Hearts board flopped J hearts q clubs q spades, turn was 9 hearts (think this is what got me as thought I had trips and a flush draw) then final card was 8 spades.

Basically I was a lamb to the slaughter from the flop, raising the nuts opponent. I have to learn to fold these hands when it matters

HJ is hijack position right before cutoff. anyways Q3 is way to weak to steal, you want to have a hand with more equity against the remaining opponents calling range, and the further from the Button(or SB) the tighter your stealing range has to be.

In mtt's you have to be much more aware of stack sizes, in cash games everyone's usually deep, but in Mtt's stacksizes are going to effect people's hand ranges much more. in your hand the BB is around 20 bb which is a great 3 bet shoving stack, so here i'm raising more with a value range that can call a 3bet shove from BB (this range would depend on BB stats/reads), now if your in CO/BTN you can add more "stealing" hands because now the 20BB stack is not left to act.

as played with a rainbow flop definitively bet smaller as now there's less chance he has a draw. and I'm even more sure river is a fold.

Q3s might be decent for a steal attempt from the hj depending upon the tendancies of the remaining players, stack sizes and distance from the $$$; but in this situation, apparantly close to the bubble and covered by the co...I'd fold pre.
