Default Recommend a pet to me

I want to get a pet. Here's the details of my situation:

I live on my own in a fair size townhouse.
    I want something sorta cuddly.
My family is allergic to cats so it would suck if it meant them visiting less because of it.
    I want minimum responsibility required.
Something like a medium size dog for a size would be ideal.
I'm not that interested in a dog because I'll need to a pet sitter for it.
So something like a ferret but not as squirrel looking.
I don't want too much shedding, but nothing bald.

    Halp

Did I narrow the search down to... nothing?

Only correct response. Any other suggestions should be taken as personal insults towards you.

What you're describing is a cat (preferably short-haired). Also, cat allergies are often myths, poor grooming and hygiene, specific to certain cats, etc. Do some research on this, and maybe just keeping your shit clean will be all it takes to ward off sensitive reactions

I'd probably go with a Scottish Fold. Very cool looking and shorter hairs

I've heard tell that servals and related species are extremely awesome pets. Very cat-like in awesomeness and dynamics, but also very dog-like in affection and loyalty. Also a good size, but because they're on the more exotic side of pets the overall product may require more maintenance.

Hedgehog. They're cuddlier than they look.

Would need to make sure to do enough research on servals though. I haven't done enough since I've not seriously considered owning one, but reports seem conflicted on the surface. It actually sounds like they're extremely high maintenance. It could all boil down to finding the right hybrid, however

I have a dog, snake, hamster, 20 fish and a 5 year old son. I will be happy when they all get the fuck out. My son may take a few years of course but the rest can leave right now.

The only cat breed worth considering is Burmese, preferably european. We have 2 and they're basically low maintenance dogs. You will not find a breed more friendly and trusting of humans. Pick up _any_ burmese cat, flip it on its back and start rubbing its belly. Whereas other breeds would land you with less eyes and unscarred skin tissue, these guys will just start purring. Prop bets accepted.

The best thing that you can get would be an ankle biter dog.

Something like a Yorkie-poo would be great, plus they're super cute!
I will destroy you with sunshine and kittens.

I'm not sure why but this thread made me laugh out loud so many times.

Are the allergies severe or mild? If they're mild, just get a cat and vacuum/clean like crazy before your family comes. Have Reactine on hand. My mom has a cat and I'm allergic so I pretty much always have Reactine on me and it seems to work okay... I just can't sleep in any room the cat frequents.

A meerkat seems the obvious answer. If you want to compare some, I'm sure you know where to go.

minimum responsibility = outdoor cat, second place indoor cat, almost all cage animals stink if you don't maintain pretty often. Wife and I had a hedge hog for a couple of years, he was cool but if I had been the one cleaning the cage he may have been liberated.

ferrets specifically in my experience smell incredibly bad (not just the cage) and are mean.
  24. #24
Ferrets arent mean hahaha. And only stink if you do not take care of them. Especially if you get just one. Ive had a few. they are rather fun. But do take work and pretty much the litter box needs to be scooped daily. and changed weekly. For bath time fill tub up with hot water. They like it hot and let them swim. Then clean with ferret sheen Id say weekly.

    I recommend a bushman. Grow some tree's with big leaves so he can take care of himself after he poops. Also leave a huge glass of water and invite over mary jane. No upkeep necessary, he takes care of himself quite nice. That way you can be at my place playing poker all the time;

plus I think if you chain him in front of a computer, he can mash keys to help you with sne
