AKs vs paranoid reg. 3 bet pot.

Default AKs vs paranoid reg. 3 bet pot.

I have over 800 hands on villain, he's 17/13/24 over this sample and folds to 3 bets 50%. I've played with him quite a bit. For those who play 25NL 6max on stars his name is DPeiler and he has an avatar of some old wise scholar type guy if that rings any bells.

So the dynamic. This guy doesn't like to be pushed around preflop and calls way too many 3 bets oop. He once flatted my 3-bet CO vs BU with 63s and checked down after flopping bottom pair.

I've 3 bet him once already this session and he folded. I have a feeling he's going to want to play back at me here. His style is not to 4-bet bluff from what I've seen so I figure it's going to be post flop that he'll be felting lightly and pos floating/bluffing. I'm not 100% sure on this though and have seen him flat here with JJ QQ also.

So, my question, what to we do on this flop?

I don't want to get c/r'd lightly and have to fold.
I don't like shipping it in with AK
I don't like checking back and folding when he bets the turn
I don't like checking back and guesswork/calling turn and maybe river aswell with A high.

    Help?

    No-Limit Hold'em, $0.25 BB (5 handed) - Hold'em Manager Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

    SB ($24.75)
    BB ($11.40)
    UTG ($25)
    MP ($30.80)
    Hero (Button) ($28.25)

Preflop: Hero is Button with K, A
1 fold, MP bets $0.75, Hero raises $2.45, 2 folds, MP calls $1.70

    Flop: ($5.25) 6, J, 3 (2 players)
    MP checks, Hero?

I don't mind a bet/fold there at all. If he's really never folding, I don't mind checking and getting pushed off by worse, too. But a bet/fold has also the added benefit of making him feel justified in his paranoia, and you'll get value later on in the game. If he thinks you're adjusting and just trying to flop the nuts against him, you might not get him as easily.
But just waiting to flop a hand against him can't be a mistake, obviously.

fire some barrels, let's start with a cbet and go from there.

I agree, I think a testing C-bet can't go wrong in this situation. You're not too far into the hand where you can't get away and betting always seems to get better results than checking.

First of all, you are definitely right to 3bet here the majority of the time. He has shown to call with worse readily.

After the flop, you've put in 10% of your stack already and your hand is marginal against his range. (since his call pf doesn't really define his range) You are not committed. My default is check behind and cbet the turn if he checks again. There's a lot of turn/river combinations that either help your hand or are good to bluff at if necessary. And since I also check here with AA/KK sometimes, it doesn't let him off the hook from the overpair.

Additionally, depending on the read.. a cbet on the flop is not the worst play in the world sometimes if he folds to cbets a lot in 3bet pots.. and since you said he calls way too loose out of position, its probably possible that he will.

Another thing I might do with this guy is 3bet a bit harder (to like $2.70) to cut out his set odds since you have like 115 bbs, it also gets you a bit lower SPR for your AK.

In the future, make sure you know what you are going to do postflop before you do anything preflop.

Of course, I'm a newbie and suck. So take the above with a grain of salt.

I'm 3-betting no matter what, but I can't decide what I'm going to do on ragged flops. This doesn't mean I shouldn't 3-bet since it's obviously an excellent spot to given that he'll spew post flop and cal with a wide range preflop.

I also suck and therefore, outlaw, I'm afraid I cannot "make sure" exactly what I'm going to do always post flop because quite frankly the spot confused me as no option seemed great based on dynamics on flops I missed.

I had a plan for when flopping top pair though and that was bet bet bet and capitalise on his spewage.

I'm not sure I like firing multiple barrells here given that he does not like to fold. I could see him calling me down with stuff like 88 and shit if I do this.

I b/f flop to his raise, just felt I was getting owned post flop any time I missed. No question that I'm making way more from him when I hit though so I think this is a time to refrain from waving my cock about and wait till I gots some viagra.

If you cbet a board like this, I don't think you should be giving up on many turns (maybe this is a leak for me?).

If this guy stacks off with like 88 on this board I wouldn't even bother cbetting I'd just wait till I make something and pound him with bets.

Part of maximizing your earn is minimizing your loss in awkward spots. Spewing off half of your stack or more with A high isn't likely profitable against a fish like this. I think you can check the flop here for pot control. Just make sure you check the flop sometimes when hitting your hand too.. if you think he actually will remember any of your plays in future hands. If not, value city him.
