Default $25 NL 6 max hand (Value bet river and bet sizing problems)

not a very exciting hand , pretty bog standard. However I think it shows up leaks in my game.

not value betting the river in position I am sure is costing me money. I get a little worried when the board looks scary, even though it has been checked to me, and I am fairly certain I have the best hand.

Read on the Villain (SB) I have around 45 hands on him, so not much to go on, but it's all I have, and I am working hard to go with what I have got, rather than discounting it all together.

He was playing 19/9 which is pretty passive pre flop. AF of 1, really passive post flop. Fold to C bet 0/3. He had check raised one flop out of 3.

He had called 3 out of 4 steals from the Bb, so I his range is pretty wide I would imagine. I had seen him limp utg with KQs and AJo which isn't completely relevant to this hand, but it just made me think he was even more passive.

    No-Limit Hold'em, $0.25 BB (6 handed) - Hold'em Manager Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com

    Button ($67.42)
    SB ($25)
    BB ($19.07)
    UTG ($36.72)
    MP ($16.86)
    Hero (CO) ($25)

Preflop: Hero is CO with A, K
    2 folds, Hero bets $0.85, 1 fold, SB calls $0.75, 1 fold

    Flop: ($1.95) 8, K, 10 (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $1.25, SB calls $1.25

    Turn: ($4.45) 5 (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $3, SB calls $3

    River: ($10.45) Q (2 players)
    SB checks, Hero checks

    Total pot: $10.45

I have great difficulty putting players with a wide range on a range. I think he is capable of flatting with a fairly good hand rather than 3 bet. As he hadn't attempted a 3 bet up to yet. I think Ak and any ace below are in his range. Any pocket pair including some decent ones.

When I bet the flop, I bet it for Value, I never expected him to fold for one second. When I Look at it now, maybe the size of it was a little small, although I didn't want to create a massive pot with my hand just yet, and he was capable of a check raise. However it is quite a wet flop, so maybe I should have bet a bit bigger.

    The turn.

This is a blank as far as I am concerned. It makes a flush draw, but that isn't any great worry yet. This is part of my game I have tried to improve, I would have checked this in the past and given a free card. Again I bet for value, this time half expecting him to fold. Is my bet sizing to small again ?

    The river.

When he calls the turn, I am convinced he has a King. Ace Jack is another posibility and Ace Queen. KQ, K10, and KJ seem most likely if he has a King. This is where I get the jitters. Should I be value betting this river ? Bet folding / Bet calling , or is it ok to check behind and take the showdown?

The River card scared me, but he checked it to me so it is likely I still have the best hand. He will call with a worse King, but there is only really KJ I beat. He would probably call with AQ too.

Any advice is welcome, it is a common situation I find myself in, I think I need to start betting for value a bit thinner on the river.

If you're ahead on most of the ranges you put,you can safely value bet here $5-$7.Bet sizing on flop and turn is fine.

And instant muck if he shoves/ min raise etc etc ?

bet sizing is about what i'd do for flop and turn. you may use terms like "wet" and "scare card" a little loosely though

Go for around $6 on river, and don't expect to get check/raised here ever.

What if there's $2 in the pot, and effective stacks are 24 bucks?
The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which unskilled individuals suffer from illusory superiority, mistakenly rating their ability much higher than average. This bias is attributed to a metacognitive inability of the unskilled to recognize their mistakes
