    Default 98s in MP

Hi, I've decided to join the discussions on this forum to hopefully improve
my game. I'm returning to poker after a long break (2+ years) and I'm feeling very rusty. In particular, this hand I played a couple of days ago had me very confused.

Table is surprisingly good averaging about 24/9

UTG and MP2 have both been playing very poorly, making very poor calldowns, limping too much (like 30-40%) and raising too little.
SB and BB both seem a bit loose/passive but no strong reads.
MP3, CO and Button have yet to get out of line and look pretty solid.

Full Tilt Poker, $5/$10 Limit Hold'em Cash Game, 9 Players

    Pre-Flop: Hero is MP1 with 8 9
UTG calls, UTG+1 calls, Hero calls, 2 folds, CO calls, BTN folds, SB calls, BB checks

    Flop: (6 SB) Q J 3 (6 Players)
SB checks, BB checks, UTG checks, UTG+1 bets, Hero calls, CO calls, SB raises, 2 folds, UTG+1 calls, Hero calls, CO 3-bets, SB calls, UTG+1 calls, Hero calls

    Turn: (9 BB) T (4 Players)
SB checks, UTG+1 bets, Hero raises, CO calls, SB folds, UTG+1 calls

    River: (15 BB) 8 (3 Players)
    UTG+1 bets, Hero folds...

    Some questions:

Do you think this limp is too loose? What about 87s and T9s?

On the flop I figured my implied odds looked good enough to justify a call and I thought a check/raise seemed unlikely. Is a call +EV?

The turn is the street that most confused me. I've hit my hand but it may not be best and is quite vulnerable even if it is. But with 10 bets in the pot I decided I should raise to fold out small spades. Is a raise here too aggressive?

Any help on this would be really appreciated.

I think you need to cry and fold once the flop gets raised. Your outs are sooooooooo dirty.

Heck, the first flop call might be too loose.

Sucker end of the (broadwayish!) straight with a flush draw out and with so much flop action there is a good chance someone has a re-draw to fill up.

ya man, what Fnord said. This games' not about dreaming. It's about reality. And the reality is your hand sucks. Fold. wait for a better spot.

plz dont call that flop bet with a gutter and undercards only getting 7:1 and not closing the action. you have 3 outs...maybe.

It really sucks to hit your hand and lose.
Or to hit your hand and check/call all the way.

This pot is not out-of-control on the flop.

    PF limp is fine.
fold on flop, your outs are tainted, and u're not getting the right odds. You aren't closing the action either.
drawing to a gutshot for the "stupid" end of a str8 with a 2flush on flop is not a good idea.

Thanks for the advice guys. I gather from these responses that my flop play sucked. What about if the 3 was a club, could I then make that first call? or are there just too many players waiting to act behind me?

Also, given the way I played the flop is my raise on the turn alright or is it too aggressive?

    Thanks again

I would still muck on flop on a rainbow board. Odds are not good, and the risk of getting raised is big, since that board probably hit some hands.
Ppl will limp hands like T9s, QJ, JT, QTs, KT, KJo...
On a board like T63 or J73 i might consider peeling for the gutshot since it will give me a hidden nut hand and the risk of getting raised behind is somewhat diminished since there is only one broadway on board.

no worries. read some threads of mine. my flop play sucks, too.

however, if the 3 was a club, that doesnt change shit. you still dont have odds to draw to a gutshot alone. your 8 and 9 are likely beat, and you are going to get charged to see a river card on the turn...when the bets double in size, thereby making your odds to draw even worse.
