I am trying to learn how to calculate EV. Does anyone know the formula for calculating this. Also is there a ebook with the different poker math out there that I could get. Thanks for the help

Well equity is easy, you take the number of cards that will complete your hand and divide it by the number of cards in the deck. With two cards to come you can generally double this number.

I already know how to calculate pot odds and I understand how to calculate outs. After reading your post how important is it to be able to calculate EV in your head at the table. I use pot odds and implied odds to make my decisions. If I am getting 5 to 1 on my money and i put the other person on a big hand. providing i am not shortstacked. this is what i use to make my calls. SO my question is if you can do this in your hand and you understand pot odds and implied odds and stack to port ratio how important is it to be able to calculate ev in your head. I guesse like you said in the last post I just need some good examples. Thanks for any clarity any one can give me on this.

Take a quick look at Erpels homework assignment thread, I asked the same question and got a great answer from overflow, it writes out the formula in great clarity.
