Default Your thoughts on pocket 10's

This hand has been frustrating me lately. I raise preflop, get called and then an overcard (or two) come up, I get bet into and feel like I need to fold. Likely I need to start playing this in better position but...

Do you treat 10's like a medium pair or a premium pair and why?

JJ and TT are two of my most profitable hands.

JJ ranks No 4 and TT No 7 based on how much profit i won over my 160k hands in my DB. You could play these hands very aggressively in some spots but passively in other situations, depending on lots of things and game flow at the table. If some short stacks like 20BB shove over my 4x raise, i often call with JJ & TT. Sometimes you might even think about playing your whole stack preflop against some crazy maniacs in your games.

I treat TT as a premium hand that I'm not prepared to stack off lightly with (well..umm...usually not, sometimes I have my moments). Think of them like K's or Q's, except you're less likely to stack off when you're beat just because 'OMG, I've got TT!!".

I do a lot of bluff catching with TT.
Just dipping my toes back in.

I get more excited about TT/JJ than I do AK.

...keeping in mind that often you've gotta let all of those go on the flop.

Okay so here's a typical scenario (just happened last session but don't have history)

Villain is a total LAGG, seeing most flops and then betting when he hits any piece.

    Dealt to me 1010
    Raise 5x BB
    One caller (him)
    Flop comes 85K
He's in position and bets 2/3 of the pot.

    Call/raise/fold?

oh and JJ/1010 rank 2nd and 3rd behind AA at 5NL as far as most profitable for me

and through 10NL they are both top 7 in most profitable hands. lrn to play 'em betterz

Sorry I mean he acts first.

And thanks to the rest of you for telling me how profitable they are. I love JJ but for some reason with 1010 and 99 I have trouble playing them the same way. I guess I should just stay in the same mind frame.

Is that from PT? I had a look but couldn't get it to work, maybe I should try again - it looks very useful

6 max, 3 tabling. I open and isolate with a lot of hands at most tables I play on. I also defend a fair range. JTs is a good hand, I tend to play my good hands.

Here are my biggest losers over the same sample:

Some bad calls in there, some spew, some coolers/suck-outs/flips, a lot of good bets at the wrong time. Overall, nothing I'm ripping apart my game over.

Online full ring makes me want to hurt puppies.

If I had to build a roll from scratch again I'd go 6 max all the way.

    ...Good Question........Where am I?
I have yet to get a handle on the tens. I dunno why, but I'll give that a little more time.

Why six max's if you don't mind? (and if YOU have answered that question already, point me in the direction please sir.)

interesting, I like it right now cos it seems relatively easy to "solve" up to 100nl and maybe higher - by solve I mean develop a standard 3-5ptBB/100 game that you can play 12-20 tables with.

Not sure about longer term though, it may start to get a little dull - as I remember it, 6-max seemed a far more dynamic and challenging game

for the moment I'm happy to grind though!

I have a question about TT's and greater pp's (well actually 99's and greater). I used to slow play these in a hope of hitting a set but reading Harrington he made it clear that the standard approach is to raise to isolate. I've been doing that and tend to get 2/3 callers (I raise to about 10 bb's and find that clears all but 2/3 of the table) then after the flop if there's no higher card out I go all in and am usually called by whoever called my initial raise.

Doing this I've had nothing but success and had my best free roll performance lately..

But i'd like your advice is what I'm doing wrong? I know that alot of people say you should use your standard raise (3bb's ) am I raising too much here? I thought it useful because even at 3bb's if someones on a value draw they might be tempted to call but at 10 then it clears all but Ax and picture cards.

Also what should I do if my raise is re raised before the flop.

    Thanks
