    Default Drive to 5000NL

Yes, you read correctly. This is the blog about my drive to 25/50.

I'm currently on $200NL and close to moving up to $400NL. I play at TowerGaming - a pokerroom skin.

My blog is currently located at: http://pokerlife.wordpress.com/

I will post on here soon. I am currently on a break from poker due to exams.

Yeah it's helluva goal. And when variance rears it's ugly head (it will) just don't forget that pretty much every single 5k NL regular was once at this point.
    Good luck!

    I won't forget.

Thanks for all the support guys.

My realistic and very possible aim is to reach and beat $1000NL. That will be a dream. Anything more is a bonus

i agree. that could stop me getting to the top.

there will be a stage in the middle where i'll need to work my way up from $600NL at pokerroom to $200NL at some other site. actually, if i move to party it shouldn't be a problem.

there are $1k games at pokerroom, but sometimes they are nearly dead.

if i were to move from towergaming to stars of FT, I think I would have to drop down a few levels. ie instead of playing $600NL at TG, i'd have to play $200 stars.

but i can go from TG to Party and then I won't have to move down levels.

When/If I reach $1k NL i think i will have to switch rooms (or play at both). Because the games are dry at TG sometimes

I don't want to burst your bubble (well, maybe deflate it a tiny bit) but I don't think you should really start dreaming about what you'll do at $1000 or whatever - just focus on what you're doing now.

    Quick update:
    BR is $12k and I'm playing $400NL.
I am still running soooo good. I have barely been playing. I'm sure I'm running over 10BB/100hands for the week. Don't know exactly though. I realize I can't keep this form up and there will be a downswing at one point.

My aim isn't really to reach $5k NL. I can't see myself ever playing higher than $2k NL. My realistic aim for poker is to beat $1K NL.

I've played a bit on Party this week too and it seems quite easy. I feel comfortable at Party and Ongame $200NL. Haven't played $400NL on party yet.

Had my best day ever on Friday. I won $1025 in approx. 1 hr (maybe 1hr15mins - not sure exactly). Cashed out till after my exams now (again!).

Even $400NL is quite empty at Ongame and that's what I'm currently playing. A few days ago I logged in and saw there were only 8 short-handed tables of $400NL running and they were all full! So I had to play $200NL instead.
So I might have to switch over soon (or part time anyway). And I'm going to be playing $600NL soon so there'll be even fewer tables running.

Good luck and visit my site!

I finished my exams this morning and I won $1700 today in maybe 3 to 5hrs of play online.

In the evening I played live at a poker club. It was a £10 rebuy. I came 6th out of 20 and made no money. IMO I was the best player in the tournament and was unlucky to get knocked out without winning any money. At the final table I lost all the coin flips. I outplayed the table, but eventually lost with my 44 allin against AA with big blinds (I was actually 2nd and allin against 1st and lost).
The payout was very nice. £500 going to 1st place.

When I play offline it's more for fun and to socialize. The money I make offline won't compare to the amount I can/do win online.

My BR is currently over $13,500. I am playing $400NL.

Poker is such an up and down game. I won $4k in 2 day. In the last 2 days I lost $1.5k.

I really need to start playing more hours. I haven't played nearly enough. I'm going out partying till early hours of the morning and waking up at 2pm+. I just can't get enough hours into the day.

My BR is currently on $21.5k. I've moved up to $600NL.

I've been running very well lately. I won $2.5k today, $1k the day b4 that and $3 the day before that.

    At $600NL I've won $3k over 700 hands.

At around $30k, I'm taking a shot at $1kNL. It doesn't look like there are many fish playing in these games so I don't know how I'll survive. I'll take a shot though and see how it goes.

I've started playing a bit tighter recently. I feel I'm not being given enough respect even when I play tighter so I may as well.

In the past I've been playing 25/20, but recently I've moved to 21/18. I've been playing tighter at $600NL too, because I'm not experienced enough to play loose. Playing tight is much easier, since on average you're playing better cards and you have a good hand more often when you do play.

I've had very good results recently so I'm definitely going to continue playing like this for while.

    Hreo, bets $669.70, collects $1,082.70, net $413
    Pupsnasi, loses $408

as i was writing this post I played 2 more interesting hands:

chur bo is a regular, not sure how he plays exactly but he wasn't a donk but i think i win more than i lose off him.
i don't normally play like this, but while writing this thread i wanted a more exciting hand so i decided to push. against a lot of hands that call i still have a lot of outs, but my hand loses a lot of value if i see another card. i'm miles behind big pairs with a club though. is it a good play? i'm not sure, whatever, it worked out.

Texas Hold'em $4-$4 NL (Real Money),

Seat 3: Duckfightr ($459.90 in chips)
Seat 4: Hero ($402 in chips)
Seat 5: chur bo ($415 in chips)
Seat 8: polonez ($96 in chips)
    Seat 10: urlanlord212 ($261.35 in chips)

    ANTES/BLINDS
Hero posts blind ($2), chur bo posts blind ($4).

    Hero is dealt [7C, 7D]

    PRE-FLOP
polonez folds, urlanlord212 folds, Duckfightr folds, Hero bets $12, chur bo bets $40, Hero calls $30.

    FLOP [board cards 5C,8C,4C ]
Hero checks, chur bo bets $72, Hero bets $358 and is all-in, chur bo folds.

    SHOWDOWN
    Hero wins $515.

    SUMMARY
    Dealer: Duckfightr
    Pot: $518, (including rake: $3)
    Duckfightr, loses $0
    Hero, bets $402, collects $515, net $113
    chur bo, loses $116
    polonez, loses $0
    urlanlord212, loses $0

then the next hand this happens:

i've been playing my draws a lot more aggressively recently but i probably should have calmed it down against this guy since we had quite a history in this short session on 2 tables. i was continually floating him and raising his flop bets. this would have been a good time to just call and see a free card. it's easy to say in hindsight though. if he folds the flop i'm delighted. i probably cbet turn too and he folds there i'm happy too. i then check river if i missed and push and hopefully stack him if i hit.

Texas Hold'em $4-$4 NL (Real Money),

Seat 3: Duckfightr ($459.90 in chips)
Seat 4: Hero ($515 in chips)
Seat 5: chur bo ($299 in chips)
Seat 8: polonez ($96 in chips)
    Seat 10: urlanlord212 ($261.35 in chips)

    ANTES/BLINDS
chur bo posts blind ($2), polonez posts blind ($4).

    Hero is dealt [QS, TS]

    PRE-FLOP
urlanlord212 folds, Duckfightr bets $15, Hero calls $15, chur bo folds, polonez folds.

    FLOP [board cards JD,9D,9H ]

after i posted the graph last night i lost about $1.3k at $600NL. i tilted another few hundred dollars away again. it is so frustrating! whenever i move up levels i seem to tilt away a lot of money before i get comfortable with the level.

i played $400NL and won about $1.5k which is very nice. i've made a small profit over the last 2 days. i'm going to keep grinding $400NL i'm running so hot at Party $400NL with a winrate of nearly 11BB/100 hands over 12.5k hands.

i've looked at my stats for $400NL and they are 24/19. my $600NL stats are 26/20.5. when i continue to play $600NL i will play a bit tighter.

i was playing tight at $600NL when i first started playing it and won $3k, but for some reason i loosened up a bit and it has cost me about $4.8k.

i don't think this is my only problem though - even when i won the $3k at $600NL i didn't feel like i completely deserved it and quite a bit was down to the cards. on another day i would have lost $3k in those sessions.

the step up from $400NL to $600NL is quite big. it might just be because i'm losing at 600 and winning at 400, but i think the players are of a much higher standard. they play so aggressively.

at 1 table i was playing there was a pf raise nearly every hand and players were 3betting pf every 3 hands or so. it was crazy. all the players at this table bought in full and there was no openlimping. i definitely shouldnt have been playing at this table.

another thing i've noticed is that when i raise pf, a lot more players call and i get a lot less respect when i cbet. i find this really difficult to play against and the solution for would be to tighten up. even if i do tighten up though i don't know if i'll be able to beat the game. i might have to bring the game to them and start aggressing the other players back. i do play back, but maybe i have to play back even more and really push them hard.

who knows? probably $150k or $200k maybe even $250k.
i don't think i'll ever reach that game because i think i'll give up poker in the next year for religious reasons.
my realistic goal is to reach $1kNL and for that i'll need a BR of about $30k.

today i lost $3k in two 50 minute sessions.
yesterday i won $1.3k in 3hrs of play.
the day before i won $1.75k in 45mins of play.

i've played for 5.5hrs over the lsat 3 days and am about quits.

i've moved back up to $600NL. over the last 2 days i've only played $600NL. i definitely feel like i can and will beat it. yesterday i played well. today i lost $1.3k on coinflips.
i lost quite a lot on tilt today, probably a few hundred dollars.

i lost a big on bluffs where players should have folded and players are getting lucky against me.
this 1 player has probably taken about $2k off me today, but i feel like he is so bad and way too loose. i lost the $1.3k in coinflips to him and i also lost a big pot where i knew he was weak, but he hit a miracle turn to make a set and win the hand. i was behind the whole way in the hand, but if he didn't turn a set i would have won the hand.

i didn't play perfect poker, but i played good enough. i'm going to play some ABC poker now, because I know I can beat these loose players if i play like that.

i won $2.6k online today. amazing! 3 hrs play

yesterday i didn't play online. i played a live tourney and came 1st. i won £285 (£30+3 buyin). 25 runners. i've now won back to back live tournies.

i only play cash games online and don't like tournies. offline it's the other way round. i lose patience in cash games, but play so sick in tournies. i use my cash game aggression to destroy the tables. it is so much fun.

my br is $27k. taking a shot at $1kNL when i reach $30k. maybe $33k.

going away to israel for a year next week. i might buy a laptop so i can play there.

it doesn't look like i'll ever reach $5kNL, since there's a good chance i won't be playing poker in a year's time. i'm going to get brainwashed in the next year.

i made a good effort though. $1kNL is great for an 18 year old.

I think he means "What's the story behind you getting brainwashed about the evils of poker during your year in Israel". At least, that's what i'd have meant :P

So, are you gonna cash out your role and spend it on hookers and blow? It will certainly be a nice safety net, I wouldn't mind £15000.

I'm Jewish. I'm going to this thing called "Yeshiva". You just learn Jewish stuff there. It's like University, but for you only learn Jewish stuff there.

I'm going for a year on my gap year. The Rabbi's there will try and convince me not to play poker if they find out.

It's not really against Judaism to play poker, but it is frowned upon and you can't be a witness in a Jewish court if you are a professional gambler.

There's also issues with stealing or taking advantage of people when you play poker. You know... all the moral aspects of it.

I might buy a laptop to play, but I'm not sure what the internet connection is like there. If the internet is good there and I have time to play I'll buy a laptop. Friends of mine will have laptops though, so I might use theirs a bit.
    --------------------------

O wow. I didn't realize. A lot has happened since my last post. I won another $6.8k. But I've lost $3.1k in my last 2 sessions.

I played $1kNL for a bit. I made $2k+ at it. I carried on playing later and lost about $2k. I still have a profit at $1kNL but I've dropped down to $600NL for a bit because I don't feel comfortable losing $1k.

I was unlucky to lose. 1 hand I lost $1.2k when I got my AA allin preflop against JJ!
Another hand I had KK UTG. SB calls my raise. Flop is JTx with 3 hearts. I cbet 70 into pot of 77. He checkraises to 340. I push allin (I had $1000 preflop). He has 6h4h! I had KhKo. I missed and lost another big hand.

I lost the rest at $600NL. Approx. $1.1k.

Anyway, things are still looking good. My BR is now $30.5k.
