Ok, so I have been folding for most of the tournament simply because I get crap, and then the big blind comes I have crap and get reraised.

Then it happens, that magical hand we all love to hate, pocket kings! This hand and pocket eights never fail me. At this point I have been blinded down to about half my chipsstack, which is about 750.

What do you do? I am the dealer and everyone calls up to me.
Simply call the pocket kings or do what I did, go all in and get 2 callers.
Or, a small reraise which ofcourse in this case would results in a reraise on that for my all in.

I called it, and the guy with AJ hit 2 aces on the flop and turn, no king came up.

This could be equal to my hand with pocket aces where the pocket seven guy hit his seven and got a full house in the end.

I hate pocket kings too! Do what i do. Fold them immediatly. Play 7-2 off suit instead.

Well wilburforces post did not go past me I get the irony.

Anyway.. I managed to actually win with pocket kings for once! I just called with it, saw the flop hit nothing and then got reraised all in.


Sweet.. won the pot against his queens. All that said, pocket kings still suck.

You absolutely CANNOT flat call with pocket K's. You don't mention how many people are in the pot or how big the blinds are, but let's assume that the blinds are at 50/100 and 6 people are left. When the hand gets to you there are 3 in the pot with the SB and BB left to act. If you just flat call the SB is getting like a gazillion to one to call so he will and the BB can then play his ATC for free. Now you are stuck playing a big premium hand against 5 people. NOT GOOD. NOT GOOD AT ALL.

In this particular scenario your best bet would be to just shove over all of the limpers. Even if everyone folds you pick up a pretty nice sized pot, however you may just get the idiot who tried to slow play Q's to call while the guy with AJ folds and you don't have what you felt was a bad beat when in reality losing was a mistake on your part.

I don't mean to sound harsh but bad beats happen. I can't tell you how many times I have lost with A's (including one time when KT called me and flopped a T then hit a K on the river), but I guarantee it is significantly less than the times I win with them.

If you stop focusing on past results and learn to play the right hands in the right manner then your results will improve.

Pretty sure he said he pushed preflop and just took a bad beat...given his situation this was the right play and the results can be disregarded in that light.

Definitely takes some doing when you first start out not to get bitter over losses you take with JJ-KK ...

but overall limping KK preflop is not going to make you a better player. (granted if you're being tricky in very low-occurence situations it can be ok but you have to already know what you're doing then, have good reads, and be able to accept the results of any missteps).

I was playing a 20 man tournament, 7 players left I was on the position right before the small blind and shortstack with about 750 left, blinds were 100/200 and I went all in.
Ive gone all in with this hand when I was chipleader but untill just today I always lost with that hand.

In this spot I would go all in with pretty much any two cards - when you have only 3.5x BB left you still have a little bit of fold equity and even if you have a totally rubbish hand you're usually not worse than 2:1 dog if you're called.

Without hand history its hard to comment on the specific hand, but generally speaking about KK without going into specific situations regarding stacks position etc your goal is to end up heads up or at max 3 way pot while getting as much money as you can in the pot preflop.
