Live Tourney tips and do's and dont's??

Hello all,

I just wanted to know if people got something to say about this. I going to play the MCoP in Amsterdam and its going to be my first major live tournament. Do you have any tips about table behaviour, rules that are important to know, even your diet (if you got one) etc. etc. Just spit anything you want to spit and know about this, the more info the better i would say.
I got one advantage and that is i know the casino well because its my hometown casino.

Just be polite, wait till its your turn to act, take your time with desicions if needed. PAY ATTENTION TO EVERYTHING, Don't 3-bet nits, don't bluff stations etc etc

If this is the first time you play live you need to review live games rules that just do not apply at online games

Some are for example
1. You are not allowed to take your cards off the table
2. There is a line between your private area where you can put your chips and the 'public' area where chips are considered a bet
3. There are rules that indicate what is considered betting and by how much if you do not announce it verbally, for example if you throw in an oversized chip it is considered a call and not a raise, always state your action explicitly to be on the safe side.
4. Do not stringbet
5. There are rules about when your hand is considered mucked, they can change from place to place, so review the tournament rules
6. Do not be afraid to ask the dealer, it is better to ask then to make a mistake by not knowing

Do not go in there trying to look like you know what you are doing. Your better to ask and look new, since they will also think you are new. Nothing like going in and being treated like some rookie poker player with 200K hands under your belt, and asking the dealer about things others think are common knowledge. Check the ego and ask.

Oh yea, stack your chips in front of you before calling or raising, then slide them all in one motion. TLR's #4 do not string bet, means, Not Saying "I call, and I raise" I can't tell you how many times I seen guys get to draw for cheap because of the dealer pushing back someones chips because they put the call chips out first then started to count the raise.

Be prepared to put up with all manner of defective attitudes and tiresome behavior at the table.

Most tournaments require you to put your highest dinomination chips in clear view of all the other players, I have never really seen it enforced but it is courtious behaviour

Also make sure you protect your cards while in play, if the dealer gets your cards your hand is dead

Is it allowed to say something in the lines of: Your 2ooo plus 8000 more?? Or is it a call as soon as you say your 2000???

You can say I raise and then put the calling amount and raising amount seperatly.

The best way in the betting to avoid mistakes is to announce the action verbally - call or raise, and then get your chips on your side of the line and put it in. If the amount of raise you want to do is different then the amount of chips you put in, for example you only have oversized chips, then make sure to verbalize the raise amount

i just found it easier to make no moves until i know what im doing, verbally anounce and then do what ive anounced.

that way i found a n00b doesnt make any string bet/mucked hand mistakes. You have no time limit (mostly) on anything you do so take your time and verbally state before doing anything.

observe the action around you and wait until it's your turn to look at your cards. Watch everybody else at the table as they look at their cards, you can usually pick up who's excited about their hand plus it stops you from acting out of turn.

I've always heard that "call and raise" is two moves and not allowed. If you say call, thats all you can do.
