How I get over tilt
Right, some of you have probably read my uber-newbie thread about my AA winrate and are probably thinking "why the hell should I take advise from this guy?" Well the reason is that I tilt fairly easily so I have had to overcome it ALOT.
I know it sounds obvious, but alot of peolpe will tell you to take a break, drop limits for a while, tighten up etc etc ect. None of these things really work for me so here are some of the things that DO seem to work for me:
1) Play a computer game
Now I know this sounds like taking a break or doing something to take your mind off poker but its much more than that. Its about getting that winning feeling back. Whether its smashing the opposition 4-0 on FIFA 2007 (a soccer game for all you US readers) or beating my missus on a game of Worms getting that "winning feeling" back really seems to help.
2) Try a different game
I usually play limit 6-max but after a really bad run I just fall to pieces, but if I switch to a type of game I don't have as much experience in it forces me to really knuckle down and play well and hopefully, get ITM. Again this is about getting that winning feeleing back and with 1st place in a $5 sng I suddenly find myself with an extra $20 in my BR - or half a buyin for the cash tables. (Note: make sure you are bankrolled properly and at least capable of playing said game to a half-decent standard!)
3)Play a different site
If like me you have cash in 2 sites at once (I do it so I can still play while waiting for a cashout from 1 site) and are running bad and tilting playing one particular site, try playing the other for a while. I know your "luck" isnt going to be any different but your attitude might be. I have sometimes whilst multitabling found myself tilting on one table but playing at the top of my game on the other two. I have no explanation for this other than that it is purely psycological. It must have something to do with "seperating yourself" from the source of your losses.
This thread may seem completely trivial to some people but if it helps me then maybe it might help someone else.
