    Default EV question

Been awhile since I played / posted, but I've recently picked up where I left off.

Anyway, as far as EV goes, is getting the most money into the pot with the best hand at that time (ie getting myself and two others all in) always +EV? Or is there more to consider? In both cases last night I put my opponent(s) on a range that my hand dominated, and it turned out I was correct.

Getting your money in while ahead is a good thing.

Clicked on your blog link, and I just wanted to tell that Partypoker now has $5 and $10 tables outside the beginner ones...

Getting your $ into the pot when you are ahead is the name of the game. As long as you consistently do that, you will be a long term winner.

Yeah I really need to stop updating my blog again! Now that the baby is older and I have some time I can sneak in some poker time again

Now that you say that I'm glad I left some cash in PP, I'll have to start playing there again since I can play the microstakes again!

    Thanks everyone for the replies.

Well, this is where definitions come in. Being "ahead" is not a matter of having the best hand now, but also having the expectation of having the best hand at the end / or to make them fold better hands often enough to show a profit.

Imagine for instance that you're heads up and you have 2d 2c and your opponent has Jh Th.

You raise to 4bb from the BB and he calls, the flop comes up Qh Kh 5s.

If you caught sight of his cards as he looked at them, you'd be right to fold your hand to any fairly big bet because you can expect to win this hand 30% of the time; even if you're "ahead" now with pair versus K-high.

I think people can overlook that sometimes.
    Blah blah Op Blah blah

Faith in Jesus Christ is +EV. That is all.

Well spotted sir. Alot of people forget this. It doesnt come up all that much in texas holdem but if you ever play Omaha this point is KEY.
