Default Loose, tight, passive, aggressive (What are they?)

Recently, i've been studying my opponents to determine the right call to make in that given situation. But as I was studying them I realized that I wasn't quite sure exactly what style they were playing. IE: I keep track of how many times they raise, call, and how many hands they are in. So, my questions are:

    1. Out of 100 hands, what percentage of them playing would consider them to be tight or loose?

    2. Out of 100 hands, what percentage of raises to calls or vice versa (calls to raises) would make them aggressive or passive?

Also, thanks for everyones help in my previous post.

My best advice would be to get Poker Tracker and Gametime Plus or Pokerace HUD. They will track the stats for you.

    I would classify

    17% or under as tight
    17-25% as semi-tight
    25-30% as semi-loose
    Above 30% as loose

for full ring. 6 max would change these, but I don't play 6max currently, so I don't have good advice here.

I would say an aggressive player bets and raises more than twice as often as he checks/calls as a rule of thumb. Actually 2.5 times or more is a better number. Above 3 times is aggressive for sure IMO.

Thanks for the quick reply. Anyone else have a different range or is cardsman's range seem about right?

The answer is "it depends," unfortunately.

Pokertracker + PA HUD will really help you get a feel though.

Well, actually I may have left out one part it seems. I do this counting of who does what on and offline, so the tracker would only work for me being online. I play online about 25% of the time I play poker.

Once again, thanks for the advice.

Well, you could try and apply CArdman's stats to the real world in a more vague way. Just try and generalise to:

"Do they limp into a lot of pots?" == more loose than tight.
"Do they raise more often than not?" == more aggressive then passive
