    Default TAG Positional Play

    "Textbook Poker"

I think everyone here at FTR is very familiar with this style.. basically any advice you are going to get in the hand histories section is generally from people who play a TAG game. This thread isn't to discuss how to play this kind of style, but rather when to play it and at what limits (generally) it is still successful at.

I've never played at NL600 or above, and only sparingly at NL400, which is why I'm asking this question. TAG destroys the fish at the lower levels, but from what I've watched at games like NL2000 and NL1000 on Stars, it seems like the tight players are the rocks that don't get any action, and when they do, it's their AK paying off 33 on an A93 board or something like that.

The players that seem to be beating these games are more of your LAG sharks that are difficult to put on hands and raise/bet into weakness. Pros like Negraueno (sp?) and Hansen are perfect examples of this. Read DN's blog about Phil Hellmuth being "dead money" at the table.

Anyway, are there any members here that can attest to the effectiveness of a tight-agressive game at higher stakes.. NL600 at the very minimum?

Learn to play more hands against horrible players at the smaller stakes.

I agree with this 100% if it were about a complete rock.. although it doesn't really apply to me.. most of the time anyway.

For the sake of argument (this is also somewhat true), assume that I am more interested in becoming a better player capable of consistently beating all kinds of opponents, not just the fish at the smaller stakes.

Ilikeaces86 is (was) a really tight player and did really well in cash games as well.

Incidentally I did watch Phil lose about $8000 one night on UB at NL (he also lost another 16000 playing misc games like triple draw 7-2 and Omaha 8/b both headsup).
Definitely knew it was him from the comments he made when losing - the ole "The worst thing is that you don't even know how bad you are."
    It was pure entertainment.

I thought this was going to be a good read, but it turned out to be more about football strategy then poker strategy.
