getting killed in kill pots games. some advice reqd.
Hi guys,
went to my second ever 4-8$ game yesterday (with kill meaning it becomes 8-16 in kill pots).
WEIRDEST SESSION EVER: Got dealt KK 5 times and AA 2 times in 6 hours and still have ONLY 96$ profit to show for it. (was up 180$ at highest point. i probably could do a lot better playing 2-4 getting those cards . won with KK 3 times (each time with a set on the flop, and 1 was a slow played kill pot, desc below).
I have ONLY played 5 hands with Kill pots and have gotten HAMMERED in 3 of them, won a huge pot on the 4th one and folded on the flop on the 5th one.
standard procedure on kill pots:
In the kill pots, 4-5 people see the flop (after someone invariably raises preflop). someone will be the flop and someone will raise and someone will reraise. usually only check calling the turn and river. so if one doesnt hit the flop its hard to pursue.
Only 5 hands I played with Kill Pots.
1) raised with AK0 (hand desc. on another post. got hammered)
2) raised with KK (got cold called by AA and when made a boat of 6s full of Kings, got hammered by AA who made better boat). good thing i just check called on turn and river after board showed trip 6s on turn.
3) cold called raise with AQ. Caught my TPTK with Queen on the flop and got check raised on flop and called down till the river HU. The villain (NOT THE PREFLOP RAISER) had AA.
4) on the flip side. decided to slowplay KK. cold called KK. caught a set of Kings on the flop. check raised a aggressive-maniac-chaser fish on the turn. won over a 200$ pot. BUT STILL MANAGED TO PLAY IT HORRIBLY. (by cold calling with KK, and checking the river when the flush completed over my set). am ashamed that i played it sooooo bad even after being repeatedly told here in FTR to play these premium hands well.

MY QUESTIONS
1) 4-8 games are action games. a lot of times I would limp in with 8-8, 9-9, 10-10, A-10s, A-Js from UTG+1 or UTG+2 and get sandwiched between raises, reraises and capping with 5-6 players in the hand. BB would raise it, I would call, someone else to my left reraises..you get the pic. a lot of these players have JUNK (suited cards, someone maybe a PP, someone just broadway). but i still lack the aggressiveness to proceed beyond the flop if I dont hit my straight or 4-flush or OESD.
What should I do ?
I get the feeling that position becomes far more important in these action tables (as opposed to the passive 2-4 where limping works). I cant be folding my 9-9 and 8-8 always out of position right ?? what to do ? what to do ?
2) what kind of hands would you advice me to call the kill pots with ? should I raise my premium hands (AA-JJ, AK-AQ) and give my hand away. they would just call and then take over when I dont hit or they make 2 pair.
3) in these games, I have a feeling that a lot of players slowplay (cold call with AK, AQ, AA, KK). then hammer you in the head when you bet your hand on the turn or river and they feel their hand is good. Should i try that ? i would probably be in over my head. I have only slowplayed 1 hand I mentioned above with KK (cold calling on a kill pot). but that was not planned at all. was SCARED to play that kill pot after getting hammered on each kill pots previously.
4) Some people cold call with 5-2s from the blinds, some other with J-9o, k-7s. WTF. yet against them i win the least when I have a made hand and lose the most when they catch up and check raise me on the turn-river. am i just chicken or there is some method to this madness.
5) I still feel that overall its better to play 4-8 than 2-4. 2-4 felt LIKE A GRIND. 4-8 i just wait for my spots and play only good cards. times when they will hold up will compensate for the times i get caught up in the turn -river.
