$250 Dollar Losing swing in a 4 hour day at 25NL

I'm playing 2 tables at a time.

Is this a semi-normal huge swing, or is $250 a little steep?

I havn't been tilting too bad, maybe once or twice, but most of it is legitamate bad beats..

I finally see why they say you need a $600 dollar bank roll for 25NL 6- Max..


I've burnt through my $300 dollar roll in one day..

6MAX is swingier than 10MAX, as you've noticed. Losing 10 buyins in a row at any level is possible. If you tilt at all and you multitable, it can get really troublesome really quickly. I lost 12 buyins in a row @ $100NL once, that was my worst streak to date. I would like to think this won't happen again, but I now know better than to think that way.

I very much prefer having a bankroll of 25-30 buyins now that I'm playing primarily 6MAX (always playing 2-3 tables concurrently) and have seen how high the variance is in my sessions. I would recommend the same for anyone at $25NL, which basically means keep playing $25NL until you get to about $1250-1500 before thinking about playing $50NL.

This is my first huge swing like this, and after the first 3-4 months of solid play at 10-6 max with only small swings, this HUGE swing really threw me for a loop.

I too have lost 10 buyins at 100NL in the past and its not fun. It was more to bad play/impatience than it was bad beats.

Not knowing when to fold your AA on the river doesn't count as bad beats, so I doubt you lost 10 buy ins after getting your stack in with the best of it. Its possible, but I doubt it.

What I reccomend is to look back at your key hands if you have the histories saved, look over your pokertracker stats if you have that, and take a short break. Think about what could be wrong with your game. Are you slowplaying too much, being too aggressive vs calling stations, calling too much, chasing draws with bad odds and rationalizing it by claiming implied odds, playing too many hands, not enough hands, practicing poor table selection, not reading up in the forums constantly, looking up porn instead of concentrating on the tables, or any of a hundred other things that could hurt your game?

Don't risk such a big percentage of your roll in one day, I think the rule is not to risk more than 10% of your roll in one day. This is to prevent you blowing your roll when you are on tilt. And don't tell me you were'nt on tilt just because you weren't angry, losing money affects you mentally and you probably weren't playing your best game. Poker will be there tomorrow, your bankroll may not...

I have had a similar swing in the last couple of days, but it is seriously back and forth.....made about $100 yesterday, lost $70 last night, back up about $50 so far today(I realize it doesnt compare to $300).....BUT, I think this is because I FINALLY stopped being such a wuss and am becoming more aggro(need to control it more and stop making stupid calls/start making better laydowns, I think my biggest weakness). I am just getting a feel for my "style", and hopefully the swings will slow down some(wishful thinking?)

What I'm guessing happened is that you lost some went on tilt and played poorly, resulting in a lot more losses.. happens to the best of us. The key is realize when you're on tilt and get off that computer and do something else! This is hard for me to do, but believe me, it saves you money..

Keep working on your game, keep posting your hands here. You will move past 25 NL soon.

I'm workin on building my bankroll back now, it's just hard since Party Poker doesn't have micro limits to do it at.

I don't really want deposit more money either because then I'll feel like a failed.

Well you should go to a site that offers micro limits, just don't sign up new to any sites that offer good first deposit bonuses. To get to 50NL you're gonna want about a thousand bucks, and its gonna be easy. Grind yourself up about a 400-500 dollar 'roll playing the small games - this is the "hard" part. Once you do this, you start bonuswhoring and nutpeddling 25NL and will be at a thousand in no time at all. Good Luck.

You may want to only play one 6max table at a time. Alternatively, you could switch to playing two 10max tables at the same time. You may be having trouble concentrating fully on your game. Just a thought. Sorry to hear of your recent bad run, hope it turns around for you!

I don't think 2 tables is too much for me.

I'm pretty good at reading 2-tables at the same time. I was doing 8 at a time while I was playing 25nl 10 max, but I was more or less just camping..

My main problem was a huge run of great cards and really horrible luck..

+ add tilting away about $100 of that problably now that I look back on hand histories..
