Default Flopped set on a draw-heavy board... bet harder?

    Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (8 handed) converter

    MP2 ($14.75)
    CO ($25.45)
    Button ($22.25)
    SB ($27.05)
    BB ($16.15)
    UTG ($25)
    UTG+1 ($17.45)
    Hero ($36.4)

Preflop: Hero is MP1 with 7, 7. SB posts a blind of $0.1.
1 fold, UTG+1 calls $0.25, Hero calls $0.25, 3 folds, SB (poster) completes, BB checks.

    Flop: ($1) 8, 9, 7 (4 players)
SB checks, BB checks, UTG+1 checks, Hero bets $2, SB calls $2, BB folds, UTG+1 folds.

    Turn: ($5) K (2 players)
SB bets $2, Hero raises to $8, SB calls $6.

    River: ($21) 6 (2 players)
    SB checks, Hero checks.

    Final Pot: $21

Villain was kinda loose, not too aggro.

From the flop, I thought the villain was on a draw. The turn made me think that he was might be playing his Ks, but still drawing, maybe to a straight but also a club flush.

The river basically sunk me... anyway, he flipped over a Q J. Was there anything I could have done better? Pushed harder on the flop? I figured a smart player with a made straight would re-raise to get the flush draws out, but there are a lot of stupid players, so I can't rule it out.

Not much you can do but push harder on the flop, and go AI on the turn. He still might call you on turn. You had a lot of outs to fill up unfortunately he hit his his and you missed the fh.

I like the overbet on the flop and would have been a little concerned he played J10 and floped the joint. Tough hand. Those suited connecters can make you some money.

I think you got off cheap on this one. You checked behind when he was certainly going for the c/r after making the 2nd nuts at the river. Played well IMO. You gave him poor odds to chase at the turn. He paid $6.00 to win $6.50 after calling your turn raise (correct odds would have been about 3:1 and he paid 1:1ish). And then he gave you a free showdown. VNH even though you lost.
I'll be a rootin' tootin' shootin' damn fool, protectin' my chips.
