Default Confusions over the kicker in home games.

First I would like to say this is a great site and the community is even better!

It says not to be afraid to post any question here... so here it goes :P

    My hand:

    8, Q

    Friends hand:

    8, J

    Community:

    7, 8, K, 7, A

We tie with a pair of 8's and 7's... But here is where the confusion starts.

    Do I win because Q > J

Or do we split the pot because we both have the Ace in the community?

This would clear up a lot for us.

    Thank you for your replies!

EDITED in the pair of 7's

You both have two pairs (88,77), with the Ace kicker.

    Best 5 card hand.

    Your 5: 8877A

    His 5: 8877A

    It's a split pot.

There are posts like this around the forum. Try doing a search to find your answer to future questions.

In short, the best five card combination is the hand you go with.

You both have 8's and 7's with an A Kicker. You split the pot.
