Default What's the Point of a Read if you Don't Trust It?

APL game, getting near the FT. Blinds are nothing to sneeze at and I've got QQ in the SB.

Folds to Molinero in MP; he raises. He's like that.

Then the guy to his left reraises AI. He's pretty tight; the only other time I've seen him put a bunch of chips in the pot he showed AA.

And I think, geez what're the odds he got AA twice in one night (70 hands or so)? And I call. So does another guy (with sixes)

    Hehe.

Just 'cause you really don't think opp DESERVES to have such-and-such cards doesn't mean he doesn't have them. Queens no good.

i'm the same, so often ignore my gut feeling about what someone has, and then they turn out to have it. Must learn to listen to my gut more (except when it tells me to eat more).

So very often, if you find yourself thinking anything starting with "geez what're the odds"... you need to let it go. I find myself in this situation a lot when opponents flop flushes against me. I just can't believe I'd be on the receiving end of such an improbable event. But it happens.

The thing about this situation is that if it's your first premium hand for ages (QQ) you naturally refuse to believe that someone else has fluked a higher pair... i mean WHAT are the ODDS of THAT?!

Happened to me a few times. Tight player makes a big preflop raise... i have KK... i think "yeah right as if he has bullets"

    oh dear.

QQ and JJ are hands i've learned to drop in pressure situations
take your ego out of the equation and judge the situation dispassionately

yeah this happened to me early in my NL training. fold fold fold for hours, then finally get QQ and watch maniac guy make some goofy raise. i'm ready to "drop the fucking hammer" on him and all of a sudden the card-catching luckyfuck in between us beats me to it. well he can't have AA/KK AGAIN can he?? my read tell me yes but i call and he shows KK. to make matters worse, he flops and rivers two more K's to utterly crush my crappy one pair. lesson learned -- TRUST YOUR READS!
