    Depends on what your in.

SnG any where from 1-2 hours. IF you last that long

MTT any where from 4-7 hours. Depending on the field and if you are still in it.

Ring games - sit when you want and leave when you want. The buy in is everyones preference.

    himself fucker.
I play about 45mins-1hr then take a nice break for an hr or two. Then take on another session if I feel like it. If you play too long your concentration goes and your profit starts slipping away.

So when you play over the internet it's normal to only play for 45min-1h??? In any BB limits?

How can you read the playertypes in this short while?

I'm new, but it takes me atleast 30mins just to get a hold of the game and start feeling comfortable.

How many flops do you see at this time 45min-1h time?

It takes me about 4-5 orbits of 6max to complete sufficent notes on all my opponents. And another 4-5 orbits at another table. I then tweak the notes a little bit past that, but it basically establishes a good sense of "who they are." Then I just play until I feel a slight twing of boredom or my focus slipping. I'd rather play 2 sessions of 1 hr each with a nice movie or video game break in between then one longer 2 hr session where I might get bored or frustrated near the end.

It really depend on you personality and endurance. If you can concentrate for a long period of time play for longer sessions, if your mind tends to wander after and hour take frequent breaks. You just have to be aware of how you feel (very aware) and have the discipline to take a break if you feel less sharp...even if you do want to continue playing.
Now I generally play 3-4 hours per night during the week with few if any breaks (I am usually involved in 2 MTTs or SnGs) on the weekend either Saturday or Sunday I get a single 8-9 hour session in and take a breaks at roughly 3 hour intervals. My breaks last from 15-30 minutes...and usually consists of throwing the ball/playing with the dogs - I tried jogging on the treadmill but I would mull over hands, and in the end it was not much of a break. You just have to know where your limits are...most days 3-4 hours straight is not difficult for me, there are days where my mind starts to wander after an hour - those are the days I just stop playing...because if I don't I will lose a bunch of money.
Do your chores, pay bills, spend some time with your wife/husband/girlfriend/boyfriend, get lifes little things out of the way so when you sit down to play there is nothing else in your mind but playing poker....find and acknowledge your limits time and attention wise and stick to it....very simple really.

A hate to be disturbed when I play, yet you HAVE to answere them if they want to talk about the dinner or something...

How do you act? I rather be totally alone when I play but thats impossible nowdays...

Let her know that distractions when playing can instantly cost money. Plan ahead for time you will be playing, and make an effort before starting to get everything settled first. Give her the courtesy of saying something like... "I am going to want an hour of un-interupted time to work on-line, is there anything you need before I do?". Do it every time, and be willing to devote some time to her needs before you start.

She'll appreciate the effort, and eventually will learn to respect your time. Hell if your good, tell her "Baby, i'm working toward that (xxx) you've been wanting", if that doesn't work, I don't know what will.

Besides the fact that my wife plays too, is that we have kids that like watching us play. (Poker you perverts ) They're making comments and I tell them why I'm doing something, and I think it helps me when I talk about why I'm doing something. And I find that when my reason to them is something along the lines of ... because I feel like I might get lucky, I know it's time to lay it down. I do realize though it's time to go play X-box with them or something else when one of them makes a comment like, "I bet you raised because you know he doesn't have the K or he would have bet after the flop, right dad. Besides he tried to bluff that lady over there with a crap hand before last time he had the dealer button." So if you can get them involved with you playing without them being a distraction it's really nice. And sometimes they notice things about the way other people have been playing that I don't see.

So if you can get the other person involved somehow, by setting up an account for them, or having them sit and play with you telling them what to do, they might take a big interest in it too. But I usually stay up late and end up 2 tabling for a few hours most nights.

I mostly play Sit - n Gos and MTT, but the last month or so have been playing more ring games. It was mentioned earlier in the thread that you should only play as long as your concentration level is high. Case in point. Last night I was at a ring game and a sit-n-go. In about half an hour, I doubled my buy in in the ring game while playing the Sit-n-go. Well the tournament was getting down to the cut off line and my stack was small compared to the chip leaders (I was in 4th with three positions paying out). I felt my concentration slipping on the ring game while I focused more on building my stack for the final push at the tournament. I was convinced that despite this, I could still play the ring game - huge and costly mistake. In three hands, I lost all my profit in the ring game and was back to my buy in. Looking back, I had not even realized that 3 seats had changed players and I had no notes or reads. Fortunately I finished 2nd in the tourney.

The point is, if you feel your concentration slipping - get out.
If you put all your faith in the river, you are up shit's creek

I've had to kick my fiance out before, there are times when I can concentrate and carry on a conversation ( get yelled at because i'm chatting in IRC at the final Table ). Other times just her leaning on my chair, or making little noises, can mess with me. She undestands this because I explained it, and politely asks me if she can watch (she does liek to watch me play), Love that woman .

Playing online, I play from 1-6 hours depending on my other plans for the day, my longest online session in PT was 7 hours (thats at one table). At casinos I typically play 12-18 hours, my longest session to date was about 22 hours. This is easy for me, because I play limit.

One of my friends goes to AC about one week a month and normally plays 30 hour sessions of no limit; he's a bit of a freek though.
Is that guy still part of the forum??
