It really depend on you personality and endurance. If you can concentrate for a long period of time play for longer sessions, if your mind tends to wander after and hour take frequent breaks. You just have to be aware of how you feel (very aware) and have the discipline to take a break if you feel less sharp...even if you do want to continue playing.

Let her know that distractions when playing can instantly cost money. Plan ahead for time you will be playing, and make an effort before starting to get everything settled first. Give her the courtesy of saying something like... "I am going to want an hour of un-interupted time to work on-line, is there anything you need before I do?". Do it every time, and be willing to devote some time to her needs before you start.

I mostly play Sit - n Gos and MTT, but the last month or so have been playing more ring games. It was mentioned earlier in the thread that you should only play as long as your concentration level is high. Case in point. Last night I was at a ring game and a sit-n-go. In about half an hour, I doubled my buy in in the ring game while playing the Sit-n-go. Well the tournament was getting down to the cut off line and my stack was small compared to the chip leaders (I was in 4th with three positions paying out). I felt my concentration slipping on the ring game while I focused more on building my stack for the final push at the tournament. I was convinced that despite this, I could still play the ring game - huge and costly mistake. In three hands, I lost all my profit in the ring game and was back to my buy in. Looking back, I had not even realized that 3 seats had changed players and I had no notes or reads. Fortunately I finished 2nd in the tourney. |

Playing online, I play from 1-6 hours depending on my other plans for the day, my longest online session in PT was 7 hours (thats at one table). At casinos I typically play 12-18 hours, my longest session to date was about 22 hours. This is easy for me, because I play limit.
