Being tight

I try to play tight, but I seem to be stuck around 25 % flops seen.
Now I wonder if there really is a point in being much tighter, as the tables I play usually have an average flop %-age of ~50 %. Once I read this statement: "Your goal is to be tighter, but only slightly tighter than your opponent." What do you think of this advice and what percentages do you have?

If there is not much raising at the table, only blind calls makes it 15 % if you call every other SB. Preflop raising must be an important factor. If there was a decent raise every time, I think I would play maybe 10 % of my hands.

This sounds like just another "it depends" answer but it isn't...well, not entirely

You can play as tight or as loose as you want, as long as you know WHY you're playing that way and what you're getting out of it.

if you want to see 40+% of flops go ahead, but be Very Able to fold flops that don't help you very much. You fritter away quite of money seeing flops with mediocre cards, but you hopefully snag a great hand and make up for it all. So you're playing for a big score, instead of numerous little scores. You have to know how to maximize a big score.

On the other hand, you can screw down so much that you're in the lead every time you see a flop. Opps will pick up on this and folld to you quite a bit, but that's not bad if you can at least get a couple bets in there before they do. And if you occasionally catch someone with a hand slightly worse than yours. You're playing for small incremental advances, punctuated by slightly bigger ones.

What you want at most tables is to pop back and forth between these approaches, so that you're always playing one of them when opps think you're playing the other one. That's cash money. I should know. I have $9

Keep in mind that number factors in when you are in the blinds. If you are playing a full table, I think 25% is not necessarily too high. I find on micro tables that my flops seen hovers around 30%, and I'm making a killing (as much as you can, at least, on .01 and .02 blinds! :P ) In micro, there is a ton of limping. Which is great for you if you know how to take advantage of it.

If you are playing low buy in NL like me, here's something I read once (I think it was Caro) to keep in mind.
If your opponents are playing too tight, loosen up.
If your opponents are playing too loose, loosen up.

On tables that have 4 or 5 people consistently seeing the flop, you have to lower your preflop standards somewhat (still not as low as the other players), and tighten up your post flop play because you never know what some crazy ass could have.
