Default Playing the low end of the straight

In a .25 - .5 NLH ring game. I am one to the right of the button. The table has had very little preflop raising and some loose play after the flop. I am delt Q9, four people call before me, I call, the button and the SB fold and the BB calls. The flop comes KJT rainbow. The first two to act check and player 3 bets $3 player 4 folds I raise to $6. the BB and player 2 fold, Player 3 calls. The turn is a K and player 3 checks. I go all in for $17. he thinks a long time and calls. the river is a Q. he shows KQ for the win. DId I play it ok? Was there any way I could have played it differently to avoid this?

No. You bet fairly aggressively when you hit the straight, ultra-aggressive when it became obvious that he probably had a hand, and he lucked out on the river.

From your subject I thought this was going to be high straight vs. low straight...

I dont think you played it wrong. It's just a hand you couldn't get away from (neither could he). He flopped Top pair w/ open ended straight draw. Your reraise of only $3 didnt help though. On turn I dont think there's any way to get him out since he got a set.

Your post reminded me of a hand I lost big in also. I had AJs and raised to $2 in NL .25. Had 3 callers. Flopped a KQT giving me the nut straight (on flop). Guy had K9 and betted 1.25 on his top pair. I reraised it to $10. On turn came a K. He checked and i went allin for $20 (i put him on trips which was what he had). He called and the river came a Q just like your hand. He paired the board giving him the boat. game over. He caught runner runner to beat me.
