    Default Ultimate Werewolf signup

Fancy playing some werewolf? Then get in the game!

Rough setup is as follows. Days will probably be 72hrs with 24hr nights.

16 players needed, can add more if interest is high.

Quote Originally Posted by Hoopy View Post

    16 players total.

Seer - 1 lookup each night, only finds out if wolf or villager.

Priest - May protect 1 player each night, loses power if successful.

Tough Guy - If attacked at night survives for 1/2 of the next day.

    8 Villagers

Miller - Appears as a wolf to the seer.

Cursed - If attacked at night they become a wolf. Cannot win with the village, must join the wolves to win.

    3 Wolves - 1 Kill per night.

Tough Guy and Miller do not know their powers until they are activated/made clear.

Thoughts? I've tried to make it so a mass claim early on is difficult.

Alpha wolf Khaleesi is fucking awesome. Great tie in to the theme and a really cool game mechanic. Epic.
  24. #24
yeah the game is epic. there were at least 4 wolf factions (Baratheons, Starks, Targaryens, Wildings) and a neutral party (Others), lost wolves who can be converted to villagers (Arya, Sansa).

It feels a bit icky but the Lannisters and their "allies" are the villagers.

i'll be up for lynching baudib day one and leading a mob on some innocent villager on day 2.

BigRedGOAT: It's day 2 in that game and there are 8,000 posts already. I don't think you wanna.

no one in the game knows how the factions are set up or how the game is designed, it might be interesting to look at when it's over.

How the fuck do people remember whose playing? And how does anyone have the time to read through the thread?
  34. #34
Each game day is 13 hours, thread closes for an 11-hour night.

So typically a handful of people will be almost always on, keeping track of significant developments, making charts of who killed who/when/how (there are in thread attacks and "events" daily).

when a significant wolf flips, there's some rereading for spew but really, a lot is missed. no one is rereading the thread a lot. it's more like a chatroom than a forum thread. for instance, I got killed by a faction and 8 hours later, most people forgot it even existed. it's rough for the village but there's a ton of W on W violence too.

What's the point in w-w violence if noone remembers who killed who? I think optimal strategy in a game like that is to shamelessly buddy up to the wolves and use your numbers.

    My feelings are

    1) On sites that do this, there are generally a large number of games constantly running. So the flaw of 2) is deminished.

    2) When the seer binks, the game may be over for one player before they even got a chance to play. Thats only if the seer outs, but still.

Im kinda meh on it, because optimal wolf strategy at that point is to play from day1 assuming one of them is caught.

there's an easy fix for this, make the n0 lookup a randomized villager.

it's the way it's handled in turbos where i play.

it makes D1 a lot more interesting IMO.

the game i talked about where we killed 2 wolves in our first 2 chances and then almost lost was one where the seer binked. I thought he should have held onto it longer, but he left his lookup in an ambiguous way that he could have done as a vanilla.

It was pretty interesting because the wolves realized he was the seer but the villagers didn't take it seriously, we just barely lynched the guy because he went AFK (full anti-spew). I caught another wolf when he started talking about the first guy being "a peeked wolf" and vigged him.

but yeah it put the wolves in a shitty spot.

not going to detail it but

in games that are based almost entirely on seer cover

as a wolf i was alive for 5 nights over 2 games and we blocked or killed a village special all 5 nights; these were games with a true n0 lookup. Not gonna lie, i was largely responsible for all of them. Also we had two wolves considered lock clear because of weaknesses in the system.

smart wolf teams can exploit it because lolwillagers

The whole start of the game is poorly constructed. The first action in the game is the villagers string someone up, because - ummm. Why?

It would do a whole lot for the plot of the game if some hypothetical villager (the mod) was nommed on n0.

Having a n0 special isn't any more of a weird beginning than having the village just randomly lynch someone for no reason on d1, anyway.

Oh yeah... I had another dream about our previous game last night. Apparently, you all have midwest American accents.

If I can't get away from FTR WW in my sleep, I may as well join in. At least I can get my obligatory shame-lynch for last game in early.

That's the way it is, we just don't write it up like that anymore and probably a lot of players have simply forgotten

Some of it's probably my fault since my mods are purely utilitarian

like 90% of D1 talk is about the EV of lynching inactives, or lynching people based off what they did in past games.

if you give the seer an action n0, it gives potentially everyone something to do.

Not here it doesnt. Here we'd get to speculate on which of Gabe/rilla got looked up, and which one of their "im quiet day 1" strategies is wolfier.

Granted, we shouldnt be wasting time talking about inactives day 1. But there also isnt really a good way to go about doing day1...especially when we've all figured out that just being quieter means your less noticeable, and then baudib gets lynched.
  61. #61
Gabe/Rilla are probably terrible n0 lookups, plus it could just be a random villager lookup.

the point is not to play n0. the point is to start D1 with more than 0 information.

also i'm pretty sure the past two games here have proven that posting in night hours can make a major impact on the game even if you can't bold yet.

the possibilities for both teams are far more complex than you can imagine.

for one example, let's say seer peeks Big Red v. Big Red hasn't even posted yet and people are pushing him for a lynch.

Two players say they don't like lynching BR, and gently nudge other wagons forward as alternatives.

The possibility that Big Red is a peeked villager adds a new dynamic to the game with many new possible lines for both sides.

You have a game show called Golden Balls, in which the point of the game is sit face to face with someone and bluff the living shit out of them. Then you choose the winner by those 2 people comparing their balls.

    So much meta.

The suggested Nash Equilibrium is to choose steal. If both have chosen steal, then neither can improve by unilaterally switching to split. However, since they don't lose by the switch, it's a bit different than a typical "Faustian Bargain".

The guy nails it in this vid where he takes the line, "I'm going to steal. There's nothing to do about it. If you pick steal, then neither gets anything at all. If you pick split, then I win... and I will split some (half) of the money with you. Trust me. I'm going to steal." This puts the decision on the other person as having advantage to playing split, where playing steal is a clear loss. This line breaks the flaw presented by the pseudo-Faustian bargain wide open.

Just need 3 more people to start this. I'll probably start the game after the weekend so everyone is around.
