Default I Had the Odds. Should I Have Just Folded?

    Turbo NLH -- $1.5 + $0.1 -- 0/15/30 Blinds -- 9 Players

It's early in the tournament. I've played with BTN villain in the cash games, but not much in SNGs. Good 'ole conservative reg. Never played with SB Villain, but so far he's seemed a little fishy.

    UTG+1 - 1,400
    MP - 1,840
    HJ - 2,690
    CO - 1,200
    BTN - 1,915
    SB - 1,485
    BB (Hero) - 1,500

    UTG - 1,470

    Pot is 45

    Dealt to Hero J, T

two folds, MP calls 30, HJ calls 30, fold, BTN calls 30, SB calls 15, Hero checks
    Pot is 150

    *** FLOP *** 2, 8, 9

four checks, BTN bets 100, SB calls 100, Hero calls 100, two folds
    Pot is 450

    *** TURN *** 5

two checks, BTN bets 180, SB calls 180, Hero calls 180

    Pot is 990

    *** RIVER *** 5

    three checks

Obviously, I don't win the hand. But, I'm wondering if my play was spewy, or if I should have just folded on the flop. I got great odds pre, OTF, & OTT. Based on the betting, I felt that I had 11 outs twice OTF (discounting the Jd, Qd, and 7d, since I suspected SB to be on a flush draw). I felt that I could win a lot of chips if I made a hand. But, it is a tournament and I could have possibly put those chips in at better spots.

    Thoughts?

in this case you should feel more like you have 6-8 outs (often someone will make two pair/a straight when you pair), but you're still priced in. you also have the hand people are less afraid of vs the diamonds which is nice. And maybe neither has the FD and your Jd is useful.

My rule of thumb is never chase a straight if someone is chasing the flush. On the flop, I see two diamonds. I would not have called the 100 bet , right there after the flop. It saves me a lot of money over time. It is nice you had over cards to all the cards on the flop.

P.S. I also hate limping in. I limp in for Omaha hi/lo, but I want fewer callers, so if I go in with JTo, it would be with a raise preflop. But that is just my style and not everyone plays the conservative way I do(i.e. if I limped in pre-flop and someone raised me, I ask myself, would I call any raises preflop with this hand. If not, I would not limp in).

It takes 2 years to learn to talk, but a lifetime to learn when to shut up.

    Hero didn't limp.

I think I just shove this flop. 6 nuts out, another 8 maybe outs, plus a billion fold equity. It's a turbo, I don't hang around in these games.

At these stakes It's a good Hand to value bet/reraise ( all in considering stacks ) every street i think ! (And maybe even jam the river) just because you have the high end of the straight ! But the way you played it is ok or a safe way to play but you won't get the maximum value out of your hands if you just call it makes you appear weak ( which is probably what u want ,to appear weak and peel off a straight on the river then pot bet ) but if you are more aggressive you will build pots that will win tournaments . I'm no pro but it just seems like your being too passive in this hand ! Jamming the flop seems ok too , it's only a small buy in loosen up a bit and kill kill kill . Lol

I think you could have folded the hand as you are chasing the second nuts. Another approach is aggressive one which is to lead from the front but which is more appropriate when deep stacked or cash games. In sit n gos chasing draws at early stage could bleed you of valuable chips.

Fold the flop - 5 in the hand (3 with position on you) and way better situation just around the corner.
Being a calling station is rarely great in a turbo
