Quick games of mafia. It feels lame the first few games but they get pretty good once you get the hang of how the game is usually played.

wierd... I can't sign up.. I see the sign up set of fields, but there's no labels for each field...
The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which unskilled individuals suffer from illusory superiority, mistakenly rating their ability much higher than average. This bias is attributed to a metacognitive inability of the unskilled to recognize their mistakes

I wanna mod a new game, but I like my games to be unique

How do you feel about a game where the wolves trade off kills with the vig each other night, and the vig is a roaming vig and once the wolves nom a player who has been the vig, it stops roaming and becomes a wolf nom nightly?

So basically it would be as follows

    night 1: wolf nom
    night 2: vig shoots
    night 3: wolf nom
night 4: a different vig shoots
    night 5: wolf nom
night 6: a different vig shoots
night 7: wolf nom hits one of the three players who has been vig
    night 8: wolf nom
night 9: wolf nom etc etc

roaming vig would be random and unknown by all except for the person who gets the role each other night, and it would be the only special

This would be like Super Meta game with no specials, but harder for the villager. The wolves won the Super Meta game pretty efficiently so.....

so you propose a game where hardly anyone gets a role, so its more likely that people lose interest once they draw villager, don't post much allowing the wolves to hide amongst the low post players. village has no tools to help narrow the known villagers down or identify wolves apart from wolves making mistakes. Seems like an easy wolf victory to me.

The game ain't broke , can't see why you wanna "fix" it. Why would people sign up for such an unbalanced game?.

Village lost that game because they were a bad village against good wolves. Blaming that loss on balance is an insult to the hard work that wolf team did.

With that said, roaming vig is a cool idea...but i dont like limiting the wolf team's ability to kill. (personal taste dislike, im unconvinced its a bad thing game theory wise)

The following suggestion doesnt solve my dislike of that, but I think its cool. You could also give people nights where they are a vigilante. Like n1 vig, n2 vig, n3 vig, etc. I feel thats a better way than randomly giving it away every night, and would let the potential vigilantes plan ahead. It would also have the same mechanic you want, where that villager must live until he fires or else the wolve's get more kills.

Alternatively, you could give the vigilante kills on the same night as the wolves, and have no-kill even nights or something. That makes some nights very exciting and others bland...but it fucks with the pace of the game and may keep interest.

You could have "vengeful" villagers, such that whenever one dies through lynch or nightkill they get to shoot someone. (or just through lynch? just nk?)

You could also keep all the wolf night kills...but grant them a power role if they kill the vig.

Are you talking about the game where there were no specials?

And another comment to the thread,

I take offense to this idea that being a villager is boring. You're in the great and deep unknown. No friends, but they're out there. Can't see any enemies, but they're out there.

There is no better role to have.

    All the others are spoiled.

Yeah to me villager is the most fun. I haven't been wolf in like two years and perpetually identify as a villager, and my main goal has been to do what JV or Gator did in the last game (either construct the correct lynch order in midgame or be the first to find the game winning lynch), which I haven't yet done. I've gotten really close several times though

You're right, it isn't broke. But isn't it also fun to do neat roles? We tend to like those around here. Everybody loves the Spectacularrrr games, Bigred and Rilla have modded some really neat games, and I thought the Werewolves vs Vampires II game was a fantastic mix of sloppy and awesome

Um, I don't think I've ever been a village power role. I really enjoy being a wolf due to me being able to be more of a spectator than I usually am as a villager. Watching the village trip over themselves is really interesting especially since you can see how things work in a group dynamic.

Also, I have an IRL friend that wants to play next game. Let's try and make it as normal as possible?

I also want normal. But...all i care about by "normal" is that the village still primarily has to win through wolf hunting and not through powerroles/mechanics.
  19. #19
I agree, but I also do think there is value in tweaking the specials so that they rely on hunting more. Like the Sorcerer role I used once where if he targets the night kill both the kill and one of the wolves dies

    Im bored. New game?

If you need time, ill make a lightning game made for exactly 8 people. Itll last about a week.

i was willing to mod a new game a day after the last one ended. nobody seemed to bite tho
  22. #22
Okay how about you guys post what sort of roles you want to play in the next game, and I'll start a sign up thread soon. I'll do anything between Super Meta II with no specials to something wacky. I won't do a spectacularrrr game though, those are JewKiDS'

Did we hate alpha werewolfs? I dont remember. Ive loved that concept though.

Alpha + Seer + vig + angel is actually pretty balanced without limiting any of their roles iirc. Lots of strategy in who gets recruited, posting changes, etc. I think itd be fun.

Or...no specials...but villagers that get lynched gain a 50% chance to shoot someone of their choosing! Idk...i like the alpha idea!
  24. #24
I really like the 50% vig idea with no specials and don't know what Alpha wolf is. I generally hate recruits, but meh I'll be modding so I don't care. What is Alpha?

I just mean recruiting werewolf. You could even give specials immunity to recruitment, add more vigilantes, or whatever. tons of cool things you can do to balance the recruiting power of the wolves while still making it super fun.
  26. #26
I'd be up for doing a recruiting game.

I just read some of this and I just wanted to say I like being a villager as much as a special. I've always been a problem solver by nature, and I don't hate having that role again. I think being a wolf once in a while would be a good change but I am always ok with being a villager.

I like being a villager too. But I prefer a special or wolf role. It's all good, but that's no reason to not consider alternative ideas.

    I like being a wolf.
Poker is easy, it's winning at poker that's hard.

I like variety. After being wolf, I like to be villager. And after a few goes as village, I like to be wolf. Special is both bad and good, it's extra pressure to play well but more interesting.

Right here is why villager doesn't need tweaked. Specials are more pressure, demand more focus, but give greater rewards.

Those rewards and dewards only exist because so many others are simply just villagers.

I personally think the great weakness of the game is helping the wolves get acclimated to being wolves. Villagers have a drive to solve, specials have a drive to apply their powers, wolves are the ones constructing the puzzle, building the trap that everyone else is trying to disarm.
