    Default 25NL - General Questions

    Hi all,

I don't have a specific hand to discuss, but rather a few general questions about certain situations. Much help is appreciated. =)

    1) After the river, I tend to have situations where the board "scares" me. An example is a 3rd suited card hits the board on the turn and I get raised on the turn. After I call the turn, I check the river. My logic is that a raise would put me in a bad spot. Is this using the wrong logic?

    2) Extremely tight players suddenly raising pre-flop, where I have mid-pocket pair. I tend to fold the hand or possibly call it if i had position. If i miss the flop, I fold. Am I paying too much respect to the "rock"?

    3) Simple C-Bets after a pre-flop raise. How do you handle that if you flop mid-pair? Call & see the turn? Or do you raise to see where you're at in the hand to gain some control?

I can basically see how I lose money most times as I tend to lose control of the hands I am in. When I get going, I have had success. =)

    Thanks for all the help.

This used to be for bigger stakes but I think it applies nowadays to all stakes.

remember that folding is a key component of an aggressive game, much more than calling is...

Awesome. Thank you both! I can totally see myself doing what that article talks about. I win a lot more hands by being aggressive and betting. I lose alot of hands where I become passive and let the other guy dictate action.

Don't think it's just nowadays - people's calling ranges are naturally wider at micro stakes because people have less idea what they're doing. So in the example given, micro players will call stuff like bare 9 high flushes because a flush is a good hand!

In essence, just value bet a lot at micros and fold to aggression. Obviously there are some exceptions, but not that many

There are often situational factors that can weigh in either direction. For instance, all scary boards aren't equally scary. They can depend on how well or poorly they fit the opponent's range, his style and his actions on the hand. The way the cards come can matter too, such as when there are two to a flush and the river brings the third vs. one on the flop plus the turn and the river.
