Tomatis: The complexity of hearing, and how crucial it is to everyday life.
Firstly this is no advertising bullshit, it's written by my own hand and was not posted/copypasted from other forums, as this sounds like the kind of shit someone would try to advertise to poker players, many of which have like they're life savings on stars.
note: please read through, I'm not sure when I'll get to what it has to do with poker, but be patient, no fukken tl;dr's up in dis bitch
When one thinks "hearing", they think at how loud one hears sounds. But this is waaay to over-simplified. Firstly, the way in which we interpret the sounds we hear is decided by 2 factors. The volume at which we hear certain frequencies from the outside world (i.e the music you hear, voices etc.) and the 2nd one is the frequencies sent through your bone marrow. This sounds like a load of plain shit, but continue reading (with the frequency stuff: I may not be correct about how exactly ones measures the "hearing" factor of the frequencies, please correct me if you know more about the subject). Many people who have social problems or learning disabilities (not serious ones) could very well suffer from out of whack ears. See, when one sees the volume a person hears frequencies graph, they should both normally be shaped like a negative parabola, with the outer hearing being above the inner hearing. The thing is, the thing in our ears which hears and interprets these frequencies can be easily damaged by many things in life, and a lot of people tend to have fucked up ears. Now you may be asking yourself, "why the fuck do I care?" well, the implications are actually really heavy. when one's inner ear graph line is above the outer ear listening frequency, they tend to live in their own little world (not too serious) and tend to be very irrational, because the voice of reasoning that provides hard facts and "suggests" rational decisions based upon what other people say cannot overcome the loudness of the inner ears frequency, which is what ones doubts are etc.
I really cannot be fucked going on about this, you can do your own research if you're interested. This has to do with poker because, if one tends to make irrational decisions when they KNOW they should be folding etc., they may have a problem with their frequencies.
To cure this problem, it's pretty fukken expensive. If you have rich parents/ good insurance, you're probably good to go, but if not, it'll probably become much cheaper in the future. What the cure is, is when one goes and listens to Mozart and Gregorian chants for 2 hours each day for 3 weeks, then a month off, then again for 2 weeks, then a month off, the again for a last 2 weeks. The unique thing about the music is that there are many variations and changes done to the music. It will switch between frequencies quickly, and my Tomatis "doctor" said that it was like "gymnastics for the ears". They take your results from a test (not very expensive, do this if you find this interesting and are willing to go forward with doing the actual treatment if there is a problem, or are just curious) and create your own schedule and music variations etc. and so on and so force.
I've been doing it for just 6 days now, and I have already been feeling a change in my mental rationality as well as my social fears. It may sound like bullshit, but I urge you to at least do a test if you have any of the following (that I have from personal experience):
1. difficulty learning new languages
2. fear of what other people/strangers think of you
3. fear of something irrational e.g ghosts (lol yeah I had that one, shit sucked)
4. being uncomfortable when talking with someone alone who you do not consider as a "best" or v. good friend, always wondering if you should try and make more conversation, or look away and end it, or what to touch upon, or just feel awkward talking to strangers/approaching them
5. fear of horror movies (due to irrationality and not being able to tell what's reality and what's the movie in our own heads)
6. Being fearless of horror films in the day, but being scared shitless during the night when alone
7. Feeling very insecure socially
8. Feeling very tired when in class, but energetic when at home
9. Do not listen to music very often, as it can give you a headache after a while
10. saying something that you don't realize is hurtful or is said/brought up at the wrong moment.
11. If you sleep near/next to a computer/phone etc. that is emitting sound and frequencies (you don't always hear the sounds, but they do have a long term effect on your ear's health, and as most of you probably have a stove and a urinal installed next to your bed, and a 42 inch screen to 48 table 300NL relentlessly, even while sleeping, and never turn off your computer because you're always torrenting HD videos of Daniel Negreanu jerking off into the camera)
There are actually many different signs, and I strongly suggest you search tomatis on google on find a more thorough description of what exactly the fuck I am talking about. It's really quite complicated, but could improve your poker game and (imo more importantly) could help you improve your concentration, energy, social insecurity, comprehension, clarity, ability to learn foreign languages, and many, many more.
Hope my clusterfuck of a post didn't leave you "wat"ing like I'm sure it probably did, but if it didn't and you are still interested, look it up online, it can't hurt!
