    Default Life, what a RUSH

Hi guys, I decided it was finally time for a new operation. (In b4 LOLDC how many times are you going to fail?).

Basically, I have totally reinvented my game/self in the last couple months and I realized it was time to nut up and take everything that I care about in life seriously. This isn't going to be a long winded first post so I am just going to summarize.

I started grinding RUSH poker after tilting away my roll a couple months ago. I have been grinding RUSH and just moved up to 50s which allows me to make a reasonable hourly 4 tabling at around 1100 hands/hr. I have begun to seriously work out again which helps to keep me even keeled and also lets me work towards some other personal goals I have.

I plan to put in between 50K to 100K hands per month for however long I decide to play rush for. I work part time and go to school as a senior (graduating in June). After I graduate I plan to stay in this area and work while grinding and working towards my two other main career goals.

We will see what happens but I have a pretty good feeling about all of this and I'll be writing relatively regular updates/thoughts about random stuff in here.

Finally a big word of thanks to the people I attribute most of my improvement in poker to:
Bikes, Talon, Dustin, Ryan, thanks for the inspiration keep grinding and finally make some progress.

Obligatory 25NL rush graph from the last month or so.

Sweet graph man, good luck on the new OP. I am very glad to see things have worked out for you since your last OP where you weren't sure you'd continue playing. Congrats man, keep it up.

DC good luck sir. Seems like not long ago you were really in the clouds and now you seem much more centered. Good to see as will watching you progress with your op!

No, I find it pretty comparable in terms of difficulty. For me, however, it's easier to 4 table rush instead of 16 tabling normal FR to get the same volume. There are some slight stylistic differences but overall the thing to remember is that RUSH poker is still poker. I'm probably going to be making a video on RUSH at some point this week for the video contest and though I certainly am not claiming to crush the game I feel pretty comfortable playing it for a consistent profit. I'll post a link to the video in here if/when I make it.

Well at almost mid month in April things are going pretty well. I'm feel pretty comfortable at 50NL and have mixed in a little bit of HU as well with some decent game selecting due to the massive rake. It looks like I'll probably hit my 50K hand goal though if I fall short of that I don't think it'll be that big of a deal.

I'm playing nittier at 50s than I was at 25s so my redline isn't as break even as it was but thankfully I have been running sick-hot since moving up to make up for it. All in all, I feel pretty good though I know I have a few leaks from a mental focus standpoint so I am working on playing my A game longer and making my A game better in general.

As for school I've got a seriously bad case of "senioritis" and I seriously cannot wait for June to get out of this place. Additionally, with the increased success at poker and being pretty sick for the last couple days and missing class has brought my homework motivation to an all time low. However, I will definitely be using this weekend to get back on the proverbial horse and get ahead in all my classes which should free up some time to be social in my last two months of college and of course, to grind more.

I made my first withdrawal in a while yesterday to help pay for taxes and my car's oil change and I think once I figure out where I am going to live this summer I'll be investing in a nice bike seeing as how gas prices are still skyrocketing.

Fitness-wise, aside from this sick week I have been in the gym nearly every day with morning cardio and weight lifting MWF. Feels great to be getting back into shape and closing in on my old PRs for bench and deadlift. Squats I have backed off because I used to only half squat because of my knees but now that they feel better I can go lower but also have had to drop weight.

Well folks, back on the IRL grind I suppose. Just wanted to say GL to all of those with money online; especially those who have their entire livelihood tied up in online poker. It's been a fun run thus far and hopefully when the smoke clears things will look a bit better. May or may not grind live in my spare time but for now I guess I'd better put my main focus back on school and my part-time.

Again, GL all and best wishes.

So I am totally going through poker withdrawal right now. NEED GAMBOL!

In my spare time I decided to do some math to calculate my upcoming life budget once I get out of school. I set it up pretty reasonably I believe and I am really glad that I did because I found out a couple sobering facts that I would have totally fucked me over if I hadn't done the research.

    1) The minimum payments for my student loans as given to me by the loan service I got them through will NEVER pay off the loans. Lol government. Seriously fuck that. I have 6 different loans that I accrued over my 3 years at this school (my freshman year is already paid off since it was at a different school and was pretty small) and while the minimum payment would make tiny dents every month in 4 of them it wouldn't even cover the entire interest in the other two. Looks like I'll be coming up with my own payment plan.

    2) My current job, even if I was to work a full time schedule wouldn't make me enough monthly to live even at the minimum monthly payment.

I also did the math of how quickly I would be able to pay off if online poker was legal and even at a conservative estimate of my hourly it would take a year or possibly less. Again, fuck you government .

Lots of options to consider in the next month or so but it looks like I'll be living pretty frugally from now until the loan payments start being required and it's time to job search again.

    Sick.

Could be really nice if they do legalize it. And I would estimate your hourly going up some too with ease of depositing for Americans.

yeah sucks for you guys now but once its regulated games are gonna be sooo sooo fishy for your american sites cuz 90% of the us population thinks online poker is illegal but once the sites are able to advertise real money play booooooom everyone snap deposits

Could be nice. Just hope it happens sometime soon. And I wonder if partypoker will come back to the US.

So tempted to just play on carbon poker. Don't like the swings in live play. But, swings are what poker are about and I just have to commit to it...

    I can't quit you poker, i can't.....

Regulation is prob at least 1 year away. Online poker might become another thing like weed. Where it makes so much sense to regulate but once a strong group takes a negative position on it, it is nearly impossible to reverse. At least with poker, we are the only country besides maybe some 3rd world states that don't allow it, which is LOL dumb.

So it's been a long time since I updated this which I guess is understandable given that I really haven't played any poker. I played one session of live where I busted a 20 dollar bonkament in a 5 way AIPF with 7bb and then lost a stack and a half at 1/2 to some terrible kid because I wasn't paying enough attention to fold top two when he was literally jumping out of his seat with a straight.

Since then I've been just grinding away at life, dealing with a bunch of personal shit and trying to figure out my life. I job searched pretty intensely for a couple weeks and applied for around 15 positions, had a couple interviews and then decided i just didn't have enough time or money to continue my job search after graduation. As a result I am going to be leaving the Chicago area after June 11th and either moving back to my home town in Iowa where it is insanely cheap to live or crashing at my parents' place in Arizona for a little while until I can find a job somewhere. It's been a pretty rough last few weeks and I actually decided to start going to a counselor here at school (they offer that as a free service) and my first session was pretty awesome. I've only got a couple more weeks to take advantage of it but so far it's been pretty neat and rather eye opening.

Things have calmed down a bit this week and I am really trying to focus a bit more on school than I have so far this year. I finally was able to play poker tonight as well which was awesome. Some buddies have been trying to get a home game together all year and we finally had enough people tonight for a little 20 dollar cash game. Blinds were .25/.5 and so everyone was short stacked most of the night (lol blind structure but w/e) I only played a few real big pots and lost the biggest one in a 4 way all in with bottom set vs two people's TP and one FD which got there to scoop. I rebought and ended up cashing out for 97 for a nice little profit. My instincts were still sharp and I don't think I made any real mistakes despite playing absurdly loose and passive preflop due to all the limping.

Still have my fingers crossed for getting my FTP money back which would be a nice little economic boost and I am considering possibly playing a bit on Merge once I graduate though it'd definitely be in the form of a very small deposit.
