Default AQ flopped 2-pair, bad slow play?

Villain was 23/15 over 65 hands. My first instinct was to 3-bet his LP raise but I flat called since we were going to be heads up. I was too excited when I flopped 2 pair so I didn't value bet, I slow played. Should I have still value bet? I think he probably would have folded on this flop, so I didn't. When the Ace on the turn filled me up, I really didn't think I would get paid so I checked. Should I have given him a chance to make a mistake by betting the flop and turn?.

Raise pre, 3/4ish on turn etc......

The object is to fill the pot of experience before you empty the pot of luck."

What raz said. Dont slow play. You want to get payed. Too many villains at 5NL will just check behind you when they would have called you down with any A. Even worse a club hits on the turn and villain wakes up. Where does that leave you?

It's very much player dependent. If you had some kind of read that the villian was prone to flaring out with aggression when called pf, and checked to, then it would have been fine. But as a rule - and there really isn't such a thing as a hard and fast rule in poker, but in a vacuum you want to build the pot where possible if you have a big hand like this, especially when you look at the texture of the flop here which is reasonably wet.

Having said that you also need to think about how many streets of value you are going to be getting from your 'monster'. I think definately when he checks behind on the flop, you need to bet the turn - the fact you didn't bet flop and simply called PF, disguises your hand a little. When the turn pairs the ace, if you bet it he may well think you are trying to bluff him out of the pot and call. If he does simply call you, I'd go for something like half pot on the river.

I don't mind your idea, but feel you just went to the extreme -

had you checked the flop and bet the turn / river then I would have liked that alot more, or bet the flop, checked the turn and then bet the river.

Your sample isn't large, but what has villain done before when he has been 3-bet? And when he hasn't been, how often has he c-bet? Seems like any info you have ought to be considered in deciding your pre-flop action.

Without any indication of his c-bet frequency, oOnce you call and hit top two on the flop, betting seems preferable to going for the slow play. There's a flush draw out there, and he can also put you on a range of other hands where he might be willing to call with a worse holding. So, since you rate to be well ahead of his range, it does seem better to build the pot.

Yes, he might fold, but there was no certainty he'd put money in the pot on the turn. As noted, he can put you to a decision if a club comes, and there's also the possibility that it will kill the chance of getting further action.

Need some reads on his flop cbet % and how often he barrels the turn to decide on the best course of action. If he barrels the flop and turn a ton we can c/c down, bets flop a high % then gives up with air it's best to c/r and with a low cbet % leading is best.

As played bet turn for $0.25-$0.30, some of his likely flop check back range will call {22-44, 66-JJ, Qx, random spades/clubs} since you look FOS.

Just remember "Big hand, big pot. Small hand, small pot".
