    Default The BP Mess

Just an interesting theory I heard today from some internet article. Some are now claiming that the explosion actually sent a damaging shock wave to the sea bed. Enough that those running the show are worried that capping the well straight out would allow pressure to build back up and actually blow out the weakened sea floor and cause a major oil geyser to explode out of a sea floor crack. Thus causing an un-repairable and catastrophic like event. That is why everything seems to being done in small incremental steps.

Not sure how much reality there is to it but crazy thought.

Just seems so hard to believe we can put little dune buggy's on Mars but can’t stop a leak a mile under the ocean. Space the final frontier my ass...
You are an FTR station-pwn'ing badass motherf**ker. You have no pansyass, girly-girl, crybaby fears. Pwn the f**king stations like you know you ought to. And win some damn money, dammit.

Bummer, was really hoping this was going to talk about Brad Pitt and the whole Angelina Jolie-Jennifer Anniston thing. I give this thread one spade.

When I was a kid, there was this other kid at my school named Mario and he'd always come up with these elaborate stories about how his Uncle tried out with the Cowboys and how his Uncle hung out with Axl Rose once and has a hot girlfriend in Toronto and how his Uncle says it's always the receiver's fault and how his Uncle drives a Porsche and blah, blah, blah. And then one day, I met Mario's Uncle and the guy was about 5'6" and ugly as sin, sporting a mullet and holes in his high tops. It took seconds for the whole massive charade to fall apart for everyone but Mario, who continued to worship his Uncle.

Still, I'd trust Mario's impression of his Uncle any day of the week over whatever comes after the phrase "I read it on the Internet".

Well, truth be told, later in life Mario went on to become...

THEY ARE BURNING THE OIL NOW!

It's a lot like the fire level on world 8-3 right before bowser
The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which unskilled individuals suffer from illusory superiority, mistakenly rating their ability much higher than average. This bias is attributed to a metacognitive inability of the unskilled to recognize their mistakes

    Here's what I think

Do not be surprised to find that there are several leaks in several different areas, the integrity of the structure itself is on the verge of collapse which would make the gushing substantially larger, predictions will continue to get much much worse for quite some time, it will go on for years, by then the right-wing of the country will be on Big Oil's side and make dreadful claims like Obama did it/BP is the victim/this is proof that we need more offshore drilling and deregulation, and Barry O will fail to seize the opportunity to make substantial change.

In one fell swoop, Rach illustrates what Barry doesn't get, or perhaps does get, but doesn't care enough

    Rachel Maddow Show

Jon Stewart for President, Bill Maher for VP, and Raddow for Majority Leader

And Al Franken as Chief Justice

Just a rant from all of the stupid boycott bp stuff on facebook/news/whatever...

Those who are "boycotting BP" - Why does the blame lie solely on them when 300 million Americans demand this natural resource, which they provide. The "blame" is just as much on us as it is on them. If we didn't create such a demand for oil, there wouldn't be a multi-billion dollar company drilling for it in the ocean. And if you think boycotting BP will change or solve anything, you're a fool, for this folly could have happened to any of the big oil companies. If it happened to Exxon, there would be Boycott Exxon invitations on fb, although it wouldn't roll off the tongue as well. Blame and blacklisting won't solve anything and should not be a priority. This WILL happen again if all we do is bitch and point fingers, then fill our gas take at another station. Perhaps we do need change, but change doesn't come from such low forms of discourse.
