As usual, the problem is right-wing interpretation of things like copyright law and unfettered capitalism. We've fooled ourselves into thinking that ownership and power over a product should reside almost exclusively with the designer of said product, and give no heed to other factors and repercussions. Copyright law wasn't originally interpreted in such an extreme fashion.

We need strong regulatory agencies in all industries, an effective cap on consolidated earnings and power, and a bench that isn't bought by special interests or rigid ideology. All of which is a political pipedream, but all of which would make problems like this vanish. Civilization itself is a pyramid scheme

I guess I don't have much to say about the specifics like with UFC or Blizzard. I fully expect corporations to one day completely and utterly rule the entire planet, and it doesn't matter which ones they are because the corporate model is the same everywhere. We can thank the information and tech age for allowing those in power to not make the mistakes that got their predecessors out of power. Weren't the corporations that ruled civilization in the Aliens movies the two that terraformed planets? Hey, they terraformed the planets therefore they owned the planets therefore they owned the people living on the planets right?

Monopoly is another problem, but watch as the courts perpetually make their interpretation of that special interest friendly. Wasn't Microsoft forced to de-monopolize by investing in Apple? I'm positive that had Microsoft gotten their monopoly yesterday, today they'd be shoving enough money in the right places to keep from being forced to de-monopolize. Which is what we can expect of other monopolies that will eventually be formed in other industries

I'm kinda just rambling. This topic is one with broad-reaching enough loli tentacles that a hundred doctorate dissertations wouldn't cover it all. All I can say is that there are loopholes and to stop letting the richies fuck you in the ass. It's hard to say what those are because they're often changing

Also, piracy. Dumbshits whine about piracy being 'stealing', but they're dumbshits. Disregarding the science showing that piracy doesn't actually delete Big Content revenue, the moral argument that piracy is stealing is like the moral argument that a serf eating from his Lord's kitchen is stealing. Warren Buffet makes more in interest than the GDP of entire towns. Corporations are the ones doing the stealing. Big Content thrives in an economy under a political system which provides them with the kind of power that determines that they reap more substantial benefit than the little guy. It's so lopsided that bumping the top tax rate to higher than Eisenhower days and dramatically dropping taxes on the Middle Class would still see a huge advantage to the big guys

This doesn't even factor in the colossal cultural damage of things like 'pop' culture and mass consumerism created by corporations

I always found it ironic and confusing that people like fables like Robin Hood, yet don't apply that to their own reality

wuf kinda zoomed out and whatnot, but focusing in on the blizzard vs kespa thing, I think I prefer blizzard wins out. The way the pros are treated by kespa is just not right and it also would seem to be damaging to the industry. Sure its cool to make 30-100k a year playing a game, but a big part of what makes sports/(certain types of) music so captivating is that the people playing/performing have "made it" financially. They worked hard at what they loved doing and are now free of the monetary system that binds the average 9-5'er. When you remove this from the equation, the fans have less of a desire to live vicariously through thier heroes. So while blizzard may carry on, business as usual, if/when they establish their own leagues, the fact that there is a possibility that it will change makes rooting for blizzard and easy choice.

no, my argument is, if blizz wins there is a chance that things will be better for the players. Pretty much it seems that its a freeroll with blizzard, but a known negative outcome with kespa

Honestly, I found the article, while good, not quite pinpointing a topic. Probably why I was all over the place.

One of the points I think the author tries to make has to do with how more corporate control over the product will make the experience and development worse. Which is true. This is why unregulated corporatism is so terrible. The goal is nothing other than profits. If Blizzard or like entities were in it for the art and the joy then they would make sure that the public and players have substantial reign to influence things (like the author demonstrated has happened with SC1), but because 100% of the corporate business model is the dollah dollah bill yo, they endeavor to crush the art, the joy, the culture (pretty much everything) in pursuit of that goal

Corporations don't have any choice but to do this, I think. Just like how an attorney is legally and financially bound to represent their clients to the best of their ability, corporate employees are legally and financial bound to represent their share-holders to the best of their ability i.e. profits

As for the current situation internally in places like Blizz, Korea, etc, I have no clue. Whomever has the looser stranglehold on the community is best

Good call. In school, I paid zero attention to all things grammar. I didn't know what a verb was until I was 18, I couldn't tell you what an adjective or adverb is without looking it up. My punctuation is awful
