.05/.10 hand

Just started playing a little cash. I am a winning SnG player but really horrible at cash games. I imagine I will be posting a few line checks in the time to come.

Fairly early in my time at the table. Villian hasn't done anything to catch my attention. His range I thought could be pretty wide pre-flop as it is blind vs blind. Pre-flop is likely too loose on my part. I felt the turn was the worse card in the deck and I basically shut down. Any thoughts on any streets would be appreciated.

I'd ask why you're playing with a half stack in a NL game but that would take away from the even better question of what the hell are you doing at this table?

Why are you raising this flop? No really, tell me why you took this action. You've gotta play your hands with every street in mind.

because he has only 20bb's and we have no reads on him, folding pre is fine i think. on the flop i prefer just calling because raising just makes sure we are beat if he continues, and we pretty much have to call his shove if he 3bets the flop because we'll be getting roughly 4:1, and rarely have the best hand

This is a 20-50bb table so $5 is the most I could start with. My thinking was this:

He raised pre-flop which I figured to be a fairly wide range of hands as it was blind vs blind. I would have position on him which led to the call. I already alluded to fact that folding was probably the right play. I thought that Ax would make a large percentage of his hands as well as Qx and suited connectors which I am ahead of which is why I raised the flop. The Ace basically filled in a large part of his range and I shut down.

They don't have a pre-beginner super-fish section on FTR so I thought this was the best place to post.

Now that I posted my thought process maybe you could provide some advice. You don't need to imply that I suck (which I think is obvious, and I already told you I suck at cash games in the initial post)

I'm not retracting my earlier statement... I haven't been around the BC in a while but I'm pretty sure everyone here still shuns short-stackers. Irrelevant to the hand I know, but get on the 100bb tables, buyin full and learn to play a complete game where implied odds is everything.

Preflop, just fold. We don't have a read on him and we only have a weak suited King vs a player who has less than 20bb behind, so you can forget playing for the flush. The issue here is that when you flop top pair, you don't really know what to do. And by raising the flop you're committing to calling a shove with a weak top pair hand when villain has already showed aggression by raising pre and now donking the flop. You could very well have the best hand, but this all comes down to how much villain has left behind him.

I said plan your hands in the earlier post. If you start planning your hands, you'll be able to predict these spots before they happen and you can safely muck your hand. Folding is your friend.

just remember that when you post here you are going to get some straight forward responses.. just soak them up and learn from them. i know it will feel like a bash sometimes, but imo you just need to read the comments and learn from it.

as played.. i'd call the flop bet with all intentions of folding later streets when i felt my K wasn't holding up. The flop bet can ofcourse be simply a c-bet, and since our hand is not that strong we are going to want to keep the pot small as possible. if he checks the turn i'd check behind. if he bet big on the river i fold. but imo i'd fold preflop anyway, unless i felt like 3betting but i wouldn't against such a shortstack

^that's an option actually.. me personaly i'd just rather fold preflop.. but yeah, if you are going to raise the flop, just shove

do you have any stats on the villain , useful stats would be attempt to steal , his vpip and pfr , and fold SB to steal, fold to 3bet. They would help to profile your opponent. I.e does he try and steal a lot .....in which case his range will be quite wide or does he hardly attempt to steal in which case he probably has a decent hand that hes raising.
