some basics can't be emphasized enough:
1. Position, position, position. Just because everyone else is playing 97s UTG doesn't mean you do.
Punish people in position...Steal with playable hands that flop well against people who are going to play basic fit-or-fold.
2. Small hand = small pot. Big hand = big pot. This is pretty obvious, but can be murky at times. But a big overpair on the button after 5 people limp-called in front on a 765 two-flush flop is NOT a big hand.
On the other hand, AK on a A72 rainbow flop is a big hand. While that's a classic situation where I like to check behind, when everyone is playing A-anything you can probably go for 3 streets of value.
If you flop the nuts, don't slowplay.
3. I think looking for tells is the most overrated thing about live poker. If you can get one tell per session that leads you to a good call or good laydown, you're doing well. However, the one really obvious tell that most people can't avoid is when they have absolutely no interest in a hand and/or that river card didn't get them there, and they're ready to muck before you even reach for chips. In general, DON'T BLUFF, but when someone is ready to instafold, make it easier for them.
Thanks for this, All things I know and have been practicing in the micros, but it's good to read some stuff to reaffirm. I really wanna just play solid poker. I wanna avoid situations where I punish the limpers in pos with good hands like u said ...and end up getting 4 callers lol ...ugh tooo many big multiway pots.
