99 vs SS

    Default 99 vs SS

I was playing $2NL on Stars and this SS guy with only $.40 would always shove if he decided to play, which is kinda scary but he would just shove Q9o and any hand just to try and take it down there.

I come up with 99 and he's to my left and only he is left.

I'm afraid if the board doesn't hit me or if there are too many overs he might just shove so I do it before he has the chance and do it preflop and take the coin flip.

Is that wrong if he calls me?

Most of these players will shove wider than they will call a shove so your shoving will take away their play.
Poker is easy, it's winning at poker that's hard.

effective ss strategy involves playing a tight range of hands very aggressively against bigger stacks.. the fact that you've see how wide his range is shows he doesn't adhere strictly to such a strategy. I'm confident with 99 over his shoving range and would almost limp or standard raise and hope for a shove and snap call if it's just you two..

I don't understand. Isn't this an argument to limp and hope he shoves over you? If he's shoving wide but calling tight, and he's shown that he loves to shove, our hand should have more than enough equity to call a shove profitably.

Yeah, I don't think I could fold that to him preflop, if I limp and he shoves over I'm gonna call. He could have waken up with an over pair but 99 v Random is good odds for me. He had been shoving every hand and calling everyhand as well, so I wasn't too afraid that I was just going to pick up his .02
