    Default jumping the gun

BB was a 12/5/4.5 regular (355 hands). The 2 notes I had on him of relevance were his tendency to push pfr off hands with a check-raise on the flop and a fondness for the min raise. I figured it was a great place to get my money in (and a 4th diamond would likely kill my action anyway), but did I shut out the portion of his range I wanted to call with my gross overbet? My thought process was this might look like I was trying to buy the pot with AdQx and could get called by tp (plus the hands I was behind).

I like it. He already showed strength with his raise.

But a case could be made for calling him.

    Ok...

    1. Do you think he 3bets AK preflop?
    2. I like your thought process and you kind of answered the question but why do you want to raise a bluff with a ton of showdown value?

I thought he might mistake my hand for AdQx (or other Ad hands that missed the flop) trying to buy the pot instead of AdAs and thereby be willing to call w/ tp thinking he was ahead.

    1) Yes, I'd definitely expect him to 3bet AK preflop especially OOP. Limiting his top pair hands.

    2) It was the fact that a good portion of his range here was air and flat calling would allow those hands to keep bluffing that my snap decision missed. I think I got too cute here and could have pushed out some of my hand value. Yes, I might miss some value from top pair/sets/worse flushes if a 4th diamond comes. But I'm blowing out all bluffs. As you point out, at least one of his top pair hands is already out anyway.

this is where pokerstove could save server space

flop is fairly simple, you have decent equity when behind and a whole bunch of equity when ahead.
