The most +EV thing I've done lately.

Default The most +EV thing I've done lately.

In my op a couple weeks back I decided that I wouldn't check my BR for an entire week. I had just moved up to 5nl and was getting into the habit of checking my BR and graph/stats every 5 seconds to "see how I was doing."

So for an entire week I didn't check anything. I would just fire up tables, play until I felt like it, and closed the Stars window. At the end of the week I was up a whopping $1.40 lol, but thats beside the point.

I just wanted to see if not checking would effect my game in any noticeable way, and now that its been a little bit since I did that I can honestly say that it has. I rarely check my BR during a session, usually just save it for the very end, if then. It really allows you to focus on the game, and made me care less about the money in play, and worry more about +EV decisions at the table.

I suggest to any of you new guys that are always opening that cashier window to give it a shot. It may not make a huge impact on your game, but it might help you make better decisions, which is always a good thing.

I agree, and you'll know when you're playing like shit anyway without having to see your graph decrease :O

Great to see your focus has changed to your decisions.

Downside with looking too much at stats is that it reduces the focus on the very next decision.

The most important decision is always the next one- because thats the one you can do perfect.

I definitely had this problem. Now it's like, I don't want to look at my stats when i'm losing and get pissed off but don't mind when i'm winning.

I'm starting to think more that my BR isn't important. It's the sessions tab and hands played during that session that I want to be looking at. I probably won't even bother to update my operation graphic until after every 3 sessions or so, unless I start the operation blog I keep meaning to do.

EDIT: Or if I lose a tonne and have to move back down, but hopefully I am in a position to loiter at 25nl for a while without having to pay too much attention to overall $ won / lost.

Yeah, this is obviously extremely helpful, if you have the will power to do it . The only exception would probably be if you were taking shots at a new level and lose a few buy-ins. Checking your bankroll to see if you're still within your safe zone is acceptable, so that you don't lose more than you were comfortable with losing.

Kevin!!! Its about time you made a damn post on FTR lol. Well, when I did it, I was in the middle of switching to 5nl, but you make a valid point. If I had felt I was losing enough to concern me, then I would have just dropped down to 2nl again. I got kinda lucky though and won a 300bb pot to kick it off, so I wasn't too concerned lol.

Wow I do this ALL the time. I try to not do it as much anymore, but before I'd have the cashier window just open the whole time LOL. Bad habit imo.
    OP: Beginner to Master

If I bet as a bluff, I should be thinking "am I getting better hands to fold? Is it likely that he will fold x% of the time to a y sized bet to make it +EV?". If I bet for value, I should be thinking "am I getting worst hands to call? Am I ahead of enough of his range that this is a good value bet?".

I also had a problem like this.
After every S'n'G I played, I checked my cashier and saw it decreasing.
So I was becaming more and more angry, and lost everything trying to get it back.

Maybe not looking at it sounds a really good idea.
    Thanks for the tip

surely you know that you lost the SNG and that therefore your bankroll is decreasing. So why the POOP do you need to check the cashier.

I like to check on my BR after every session, which pumps me up because I've been up lately, but I can see how this could be detrimental to my game if I was losing money. Put me on tilt. Good advice on not to check so often whether you're up or down.
