You won't "C) feel like a total failure" if you pay your own way while there. Free food and free rent is what makes that feeling possible. Everyone has had to count on someone once in while, and the parents are no exception, just don't freeload. Paying your own way would also help with the D) Are you going to get a real job questions too.

I understand the "get out right away" mentality. My (now) wife and I moved out immediately after landing our first jobs (we were both living at home up to that point). We "couldn't wait one more month" to be out on our own together, and we ended up fine. That said, we had an awesome opportunity to move into a house that a friend's dad was renting, it was nice and super-cheap, so we couldn't pass on that. You, on the other hand, don't have something set up quite yet....so my advice would be to wait (what's one month really?) and find a good place to live before you rush into a 6-12 month lease you'll possibly regret, which could cause problems down the road.
