Default Somethings i dont understand about position.

Ive read some where on this site that if a satalite were to monitor a game of NLH. Over the time. The money follows the button.

I play solely 6 handed. Sometimes i think the BB is the best position. Because this position acts after the dealer.

So im a little mixed up here.

preflop, yes, BB is the last to act. unfortunately, we are almost always oop post-flop, which sucks.

Ah. That reply should plug a leak then. Just love BB preflop. Otherwise the button is the daddy.

BB is awesome when you flop a monster, like a strong set or a weird gapped straight, and nobody believes you.
Also it's okay late in tournaments where push/fold preflop is the only option available, (TURBOS!). Otherwise it's kind of meh...

BUTTON is awesome though! You get to act last at the flop, turn, and river! That's great for mediocre stuff that can't take much (if any) heat like TPNK/middle pair, playing drawing hands or semi-bluffs. Just make sure they're capable of using that fold button so you can get some fold equity.

And if you've got a weak player to your left who folds waaaaay too much and easily its almost like having the button twice! (Just be ready to bail when he wakes up with a hand!)

Being an idiot, I ignored position despite all the advice. Then I bought pokertracker and checked my position stats and realized the only positions I was making money was BU & CO, everywhere else I was just losing TONS of money. oops...Out Of Position Sucks.

JR - flopping a monster ip is always > flopping it oop.

Position is not just better for hitting flops it's better for missing them too, which happens much more often I might add.

    You're definitely right Will!

When flopping good hands from the BB....It's really hard to build a good pot when we're OOP and the pot is so small to begin with. At the flop we'll have to bet in the dark and hope someone hit, go for those scary check-raises, or get fancy with slowplays (which don't always end well and leaves the pot size lacking).

I only mentioned Sets & Gapped Straights as what I like to see because they're pretty strong, somewhat disguised, and we can usually get a decent pot brewing against anyone with TP.

Flopping 2 pair is disguised, but from the BB that usually means bottom two, which can lose you a lot of money against sets, better two pairs, or other hands that improve. I'd still want to be in position to play 2 pair with confidence.

Flopping flushes from the BB just suck because they're so darned obvious and no one is likely to fight over such a small pot.

    - Just because it’s cheaper doesn’t mean you should complete the blind
    - It’s very tough to play profitably OOP
    - It is tougher to get max value out of made hands
    - It is even harder to get paid off with drawing hands
    - You are reacting to the other players instead of them reacting to you, especially if you are calling raises preflop
    - Your hand is much more face up

You need to consider relative position much more in the blinds also, one limper, the button raises, you call because it's "cheap", the limper calls, check:check, the button bets, now you have to consider not only where you stand verses the button but you also have no idea where you stand verses the limper. Unless you flop a monster then you're nearly always going to be in a tough spot by playing from the blinds.

Also, remember that if you're IP, your opponent is OOP. So even if you're playing your hand for set value, your opponent will have a difficult time trying to control the pot size because you'll never have to donk a street or put in a raise to get 3 pot sized bets post-flop.

But if you're OOP you either have to check/raise a good hand or you have to donk it to get 3 bets in when your opponent wants to only put in 2.
