    Default Hello Everyone!

Hi, i just registered here at FTR, but I have been using this website for about a month now, and finally decided, hey, i need to register and start chatting with these awesome people! ahah
I play at PokerStars now, micro limits, cant lose too much now lol.
I started out at fulltilt about a year ago, that 50 went pretty quick, along with another 150.
so im down 200 all together at that time, just kinda gave up.
ive been playing play money, watching videos on this site, (my favorite is bigspenda or splenda, or whatever it is, love that guy)
so i went to PS because i can put 10 in, i dont have to put 50,
so far, in about a week, playing NL .01/.02, im up to about 30 dollars,
which in my book is pretty good.
im not a highroller like some of you where that 30 nothing, but to me, thats a lot.
my friend has pokeredge, well the trial, hes on fulltilt, works fine
i tried it ,not that great with pokerstars, it like wont link, just the tablefinder thing doesnt work, and the hud is all messed up
    then i downloaded pokerace,
not a thing works on that
idk if you have to have pokertracker too, or what?
im thinking about getting a good poker book, idk which one yet, leaning torwards daniel negraenu's power holdem
or should i get that pokertracker thing,?
    help guys!
thanks for reading, hope to chat with you soon!

    Hi. Welcome to FTR!

Harrington's series is mostly geared towards tourneys (very good). For cash games, No Limit Hold'em: Theory and Practice (Sklansky/Miller) is a good one. For a good general foundation in all things poker, Sklansky's Theory Of Poker is a great place to start.

    Good luck!

    Welcome to FTR

Harrington has a series of books about tournaments - Harrington on Holdem I-III, which are great; He also has a series of books called Harrington on Cash - geared towards cash game, I did not read them so I cant comment

Theory Of Poker is a very good book to start with IMO

Having the ability to go back over a session to see what you did right and wrong or track your opponents play during sessions is invaluable. Don't just blow off any tracking software just because it's over $50. I think PokerOffice allows you to earn the software for free somehow.

Harrington on Cash is a good read for the novice cash player.

Also, take a look at Holdem Manager instead of PokerTracker. I used to use PT but just recently switched over to Holdem Manager. I like the more detailed stats than PT2 (I never used PT3) and there is a lower cost option for micro to low stakes games.

Good Luck and welcome to FTR.
Poker is easy, it's winning at poker that's hard.

    Hello OneToughMuff and welcome!

I'm new too, both to live poker and this site (I have been playing hold em against AI and on line for "play money" for about 2 years). I agree about Negranu's book-I think one of the Harrington series is better for a new person, Negranu's book is really not so much for newer players, it's like SUPER SYSTEM by Doyle Brunson; most of it is written by other players along with him, and most of it is geared toward tournament play. These books are really for high stakes no limit, most of us will never play at that level live anyway. A good introductory book for me was Gary Carson's "The Complete Book of Hold Em Poker." When I'm in Las Vegas I always spend hours at the Gambler's Book Shop, they have an entire library of poker books, DVD's etc. I would give you the link but I don't have 10 posts yet

    Good Luck

Welcome MUFF !!!! I'm a newbie too, hehehe. I actual had a chance to read the Small Ball section in Negreanu's new book and it was a little advanced. David Williams section had some merit, he goes into explaining on how to mix up play which I think should help us just starting out. Good luck to us in our endevours in this wonderful world of poker !!!!
