I quit the Cardinals

    Default I quit the Cardinals

I am a life-long Cardinals fan. I love Dizzy Dean, Bob Gibson, John Tudor, Lou Brock, Rogers Hornsby, Jim Edmonds, & Pujols, all the way to Stan the Man.
I will not allow the Cardinals to tarnish the uniform by putting the ultimate jake, Juan Gonzales on the roster. He'll hit them up for another 3/4 of a mil just like he did the Rangers, Royals and the Indians. He tear something stretching/warming up or walking to first base, then jake his way through another guaranteed contract. "Do you know how much you can get for a slip and fall in the dugout these days?" "My neck, my back, my neck and my back, ohhh!"
I vow to quit the Cardinals until management is bought out or they show a major commitment to winning, starting by changing GMs again away from Jocketty Jr. aka Mozeliak. I will not watch any Cardinals games, nor attend any games. When they visit the Royals this year, I will wear blue(yep, the faggy powder blue if necessary). I give up on the Cards since they gave up on 2008.

Wow, I'm sure they'll take this pretty seriously. You'll probably see results fairly soon.

This strategy is going to end up being so disappointing, assuming you just move from World Series winner to World series winner every season. Barring the occasional repeat, it'll be disappointment after disappointment

Also, you've got to ask - what does it say about your personality that you can change your loyalties so easily? I wouldn't want to be your boss/wife/child...

You're right Biondino I would beat you like my red headed step child if you forget to pick up my McDonald's on Friday night. For real do, it's a rant post about Juan Gone. At least Galapogos has the sarcasm detector to respond in kind.

WildBob, Look at the management of your team vs my team over the last 18mos. I would venture to say you are a hell of a lot closer to winning a WS title than we are right now, and with your farm system that will remain the same for the next 3-5 years minimum.

As for my loyalties, I have to support my team the best way I know how. I won't sit and take the obvious mis-management of my favorite team. Therefore I have to hit them where it hurts, in there pocketbook. TV viewership, concessions, tickets purchases. It is my only recourse no matter how insignificant.
I guess I could always be a lemming as you guys seems to be suggesting, though.
I really just wanted to know if anyone else hated the Cardinals previous 3 years worth of front office moves as much as I did.

(I should probably explain - I have a specific and passionate reason for getting het up about people changing teams, which is very long-winded and boring but I'll explain it if anyone's interested)

Is it that you had a girlfriend leave you because she decided she wants to date women from now on?

Haha - I didn't realise I'd even mentioned on FTR that I just split up with my gf of 5 years...

As I said, it's long-winded and tedious. As you may know, in the UK there is pretty much no history of franchising sports teams - teams may move out of the immediate area, but even then they'll be close enough to still be considered "the local team".

So, when people started talking about my beloved football team, Wimbledon FC, being bought by businessmen and moved lock stock and barrel to Dublin, or merged with a neighbouring team, I was up in arms.

And when they sold us down the river and let our property developing and speculating owners with no interest in anything other than their own pockets flog the club to a cokehead music entrepreneur who decided Milton Keynes (most laughable, least loved concrete nightmare in the UK) need top level football, we fans decided to cut our losses and create a club, AFC Wimbledon, in the lower levels of the minor leagues (8 divisions below where Wimbledon had been only one season earlier).

Since then, the rules have been changed to prevent clubs ever being violated and abandoned like Wimbledon were. But the anger and sense of betrayal still runs deep.

I don't think you did. I was just making a dumb joke. You know when some decides they're gay it's changing teams?

    Sorry to hear that.

I'm a Mariners' fan. Cards fans have nothing to complain about.

I love our current ownership for the fact that they saved baseball in Seattle, and they got the team competitive for the first time in it's history, but we aren't going anywhere further anytime soon.

The Mariners are strictly a business to them and as long as they are generating profits they won't change anything.

Yeah, you let A-Rod and Griffey get out of town. Neither was really a bad move given their salary/injury issues.
At least you have Ichiro. BTW, please don't trade A. Jones. You guys could have one stud outfield.

Yes. Go eat a dick while the shit from your WS victory is still warm. Just masturbate for a year thinking about the championship and by that time Jaun will be Guan.

I didn't fully understand bio's post, but it's soccer so whatev. What I do agree with is you can't joke about giving up on your team. Might as well become a Patriots, err I mean Giants fan.

If you're really giving up on the Cardinals, I've got a seat right here for you on the Kansas City Royals bandwagon (and no I won't make you wear powder blue).

Ha, this is what I immediately thought when I read your post. It's been two years (omfg two WHOLE years) since the WS title, lol. I've suffered since 1985 with a team that sucks (and I'm sure others have suffered longer, Chicago Cubs maybe?).

I do feel your pain, though, about the Juan Gone issue. The dude came to Kansas City and got quite a bit of money (in KC-terms) a few years back and pulled a hammy running out a ground ball.....took his four million and never came back. Best case scenario for your team is that he doesn't make it out of Spring Training (which he probably won't).

Astros have yet to win the World Series, in part because of you gay Cardinals.

How has this thread gotten 20 replies and no one's commented on the fact that Silly String is going to root for the Kansas City Royals because he thinks his own team hasn't shown a commitment to winning.

Anyway, quit yer whining and go watch your World Series DVD 12 more times, it's what I did after the Colts lost to the Chargers this year.

Uhm ok, I lived through 1989-2003, a stretch where we went 1004-1959 and didn't sniff the playoffs and I didn't bitch out on my team then. Imagine growing up and your two favorite teams are the Lions and Tigers *suicide*

With A-Rod, our mistake was allowing him to hit free agency at all (though I'm not much we could have done), but as great as he is, I'd never pay him what he got paid.

Griffey forced his way out, nothing we could do there either. I would like to see him come back for a year or two and retire as a Mariner though.

One that we could have avoided that hurts is Randy Johnson. We let him walk because of his back problems we knew he was about done. Well the back problems finally got him 10 years later, but look what he's done since then.

As far as the Adam Jones (and others) for Eric Bedard trade...we are giving up way too much I think (Santana costs the Mets less than this in terms of the trade). He's our #1 offensive prospect, we also include a reliable bullpen left and our #1 pitching prospect (though he's a couple years away). If we make the trade and Bedard keeps doing what he's done, I'm probably OK with it, but I just can't get the idea out of my head Bedard becoming completely mediocre (as tends to happen to all the guys we are excited about getting) and THEN seeing Jones and the other prospect go on to do big things. This IS the same team that traded Jason Varitek and Derek Lowe to Boston for Heathcliffe Slocumb....and Tino Martinez and Jeff Nelson to NYY for Russ Davis and a couple other nobodies...and....
