Default PT/PA Hud and Vista + moving your data/settings to new comp

    Hey there,

so I haven't seen any posts regarding those topics, so I thought I'd start one.

Soooo, you're currently a Windows Vista user and that nasty "a program needs permission to continue" popup is getting on your nerves? You're annoyed that you always have to right click --> run as administrator your PT/PA Hud or poker software? Or you just have bought a new machine and have no clue how to get your PT/PA Hud data and settings onto your new comp? Then this guide is for you!

    UAC / permission popups

Let's start with the permission popups. First of all, I have to tell you, that deactivating UAC (User Account Control ... the technology behind those popups) may cause a security leak. It's a great feature (at least from my perspective as a gratuate of informatics) even though it's always nagging so think about it, before you deactivate it. Here are two of the fastest ways to do it:

    1)
    - open the start menu (windows key works best)
    - type in the search field: user accounts
    - hit enter :P
    - you should have an entry "Turn User Account Control on or off", click on the linked text
    - yes, you f***** want to give permission for the last time
    - uncheck the checkbox, hit ok
    - (probably) reboot

    2)
    - open the start menu (windows key works best)
    - type in the search field: msconfig
    - hit enter (I mean it!)
    - select the "tools" tab
    - scroll down till you find "disable UAC", select it
    - press the launch button
    - reboot

Running your PT/PA Hud/Poker Software as an administrator by default

That's a pretty easy thing to do, just find the executables, for PokerTracker/PokerAce Hud/PokerStars that would be the following:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Poker Tracker V2\ptrack2.exe
    C:\Program Files (x86)\PokerAce Hud\PAHud.exe
    C:\Program Files (x86)\PokerStars\PokerStars.exe

for each executable do the following:
    - right click --> properties
    - select the "Compatibility" tab
    - check the checkbox that says: "Run this program as an administrator"
    - click the "Apply" button
    - click the "OK" button

    You're done

Getting your PokerTracker data and PokerAce Hud layouts/settings onto your new comp

So you just bought a new comp and installed PokerTracker and PokerAce Hud again and wonder how you can get your database/layouts and settings over there. Well that's pretty easy too.

    PokerTracker

PT uses two database files to manage all it's data, here're the paths:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Poker Tracker V2\hhdb.mdb
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Poker Tracker V2\ptrack.mdb

Copy those two files from your old machine and replace the empty one's that come with the fresh installation of PokerTracker on your new machine and you're done. Your complete database has just been transfered

    PokerAce Hud

PokerAce Hud stores your settings and layouts in a folder:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\PokerAce Hud\Data\Config

Copy the complete folder from your old machine and replace the contents of the folder on your new machine. You're done.

    Merging two seperate PokerTracker databases

So you always kept two seperate PokerTracker installations and think it sucks, that you don't have complete over-all stats. Well in my opinion there should be a way to merge those two databases, I just haven't looked that up yet. If there's demand I'll take a look, if I can get it done somehow.

Now run along, be happy and send my $10 for my bank roll

PS: You can send more, too!
