    Default EV question

You know the game of roulette - 38 slots, 18 green, 18 red, and two special numbers 0 and 00. You bet on a single number to win and the bet pays 35:1 if you hit that number. Otherwise you lose. Lets imagine you bet $100. So 37 times you will lose lose $100 and one time you will win $3500. You probably know that but I have a bit odd question. The one time you hit your number, you have bet $100 - do they give you $3600 (including your bet) and your net profit is $3500, or they give you $3500 (excluding your bet) so your net profit is $3400? I hope you understand my question. Thanks.

Your net profit will be two betting units less than what would be necessary to break even in the long run.

when a bet is 1 to 1, you dont only get your bet back, you get double your bet back. so when it is 35 to 1, you get 36 times your bet back. but roulette is a sucker game, and waaaay -EV

If I remember right, the house edge on all bets combined comes out to about 4%. Which is par for the course when it comes to Games at Vegas.

Keno. Now that's a nasty huge losing game. Like 12% house edge.

Used to play roulette at the boat before I started playing no limit holdem. No more boat for me. Terrible odds on everything there.
