    Default People going south

Does this happen a lot on every level?
Why is it that people go south immediately after winning a big pot?
Does it happen on higher stakes too?

Seriously, I wish they were all on death row
My dream... is to fly... over the rainbow... so high...

    only freddy deeb goes south....

i never seen good players go south online, having big stack = big advantage and more profit if u have another 200-300 bb stacks.

seriously if u dont make big mistake than its jus to ur advantage to be able to break another huge stack

it means his wife came in the door, and caught him playing poker again.
LHE is a game where your skill keeps you breakeven until you hit your rush of random BS.

Nothing beats flopping quads while dropping a duece!

Going North in capped live games is a bigger problem.

This won't be a popular answer, but I do this....sorta. Not necessarily win one big hand and leave, but when I sitin I have a predetermined goal and bounce when I reach it. My buyin and bounce points vary depending on the site I'm playing at, as do my starting hands and strategy. I also have a regular schedule where I play different sites at different times of the day

When I play, I'm not playing for the thrill of outplaying my opponents, I'm sitting at as many tables as the site will allow with the goal of grinding out a minimum of $X per day with as little risk and variance as possible.

Generally I sit in with a full buyin and bounce once I have doubled up. There are exceptions to this. At one particularly loose fishy site, I play NL25 with a $15 buyin (60bb) and I bounce when I break $35-40. The reason for this is I know from experience that at this site I can get my $15 to $40 faster/easier than I can $25 to $50. My strategy at this site is also very different than most everywhere else I play.

For me this is all about bankroll management and reducing variance. I have no illusions that I am a great poker player or that I will ever get rich playing as I do. Most days I reach or exceed my goals. On the bad days I earn less than I wanted or just break even, but I almost never have losing days.

I attribute this to strictly adhering to the rule of leaving the table once I've reached my target. Generally that means double my buyin.

OK, now tell me how much I suck

    How to go North:

    1) Buy a bunch of $100 chips.
    2) Sit in at a capped buy-in game with a retarded cap. Like an LA 25bb cap.
    3) Get a table change
    4) Add chips to your stack in transit.
    5) Get seated with a bunch of fish who are deep because they either play ok short or just plain got lucky.
    6) Profit becaue you can now stack them without having to get lucky or gamble to get deep.

BTW: Playing short is fine. I'm seriously consider playing some bigger NLHE games short because plays that work 100bb but are total spew 40-50bb are becomming popular.

I heard Paul Wassicka talk about this recently(not in person obv), and he says he has no problem with it at all. He argue that when you play online, you have the knowledge that anybody can leave at any time etc. I think the school of thought that you need to have the chance to win your money back is misguided - There are plaenty of shortstacking fish in the sea, if you can work out their ranges and outplay them, it shouldn't be a problem.

If you do think it is a problem, and I know lot's of people do, e-mail support and lobby for "deep stacked" tables, with a higher min buy-in. Makes more sense than venting here.
