Default HI, New to FTR, My first post

    Hello everyone,

Ok, so this is in the shorthanded forum also, but it seems noone goes there, so i thought I'd reintroduce myself here too.

Im 26 I live in FL im pro poker player ( i live off playing) Live and online. I play mostly small stakes online, but i bonus whore and get rakeback. I play on alot of different sites. I hope to offer somthing to this comunity as well learn new things also.

Heres a hand open for disscution.

I was reading through your 6max faq and stratgy stickys and noticed some real poker truth being spoken. While I was reviewing my sess from last night i stumbled across this hand here.... At first i thought about how bad i played it (being completly in line with the stratagy here, youll see many spots where i was making "mistakes") Howeve upon futher inspection i noticed alot of my line was due to reads! I had notes on the players and over 600 hands a piece in PT, also they had been at the table w/ me for more then 90min.

The plot thickens. As I looked closer, going with my reads, I noticed i really like the way I played it, even though on the surface (without reads) it looks pretty bad. I think its important to realize how much reads play a part in poker, and to not let ourselvs always get caught up in a "systimatic" or poker by the numbers as I like to call it, type of mentality about the game.

I cant get the hand convertor to work (vegas poker?) but ill try and clean this up.

    HOLDEM NORMAL $0.50/$1 - 2007-06-06 21:50:06 (ET)

Table: CALLE DE DORMIR (Real Money) Seat #3 is the dealer
    BUT- HERO ($20.60 in chips)
    SB-LPP ($31.65 in chips)
    ($22.73 in chips)
    ($14.86 in chips)
MP - TAG ($57.74 in chips)
    ($6.14 in chips)
FINZRIGHT - Posts small blind $0.25
    Posts big blind $0.50
    *** POCKET CARDS ***
    Dealt to SHAKENBAKED [Kc Kh]
    Folds
    TAG - Raises $1 to $1

    HERO - Calls $1
    LPP - Calls $0.75
    Folds
OK SO I COLD CALL!!! EWWWWW. BUT...THIS IS A STEAL MOST OF THE TIME TO ME, MP IS A TAG SO I DONT WANT TO SCARE HIM TO MUCH, THE BLINDS ARE BOTH LPP SO HAVING THEM IN IS GOOD TOO. (being in pots with stong hands, in position, and aginst weak players=profit so come on in)+ So I CC and the bb fold ? must have had 2/8 cause he was Loose, and we take the flop 3-way

    *** FLOP *** [Kd 3c 9d]
    LPP - Bets $0.50
    TAG - Calls $0.50
    HERO- Raises $1 to $1
    LPP- Calls $0.50
    TAG - Calls $0.50

OMG WHY RAISE WAIT TILL THE TURN MAXIMIZE VALUE, UGLY. BUT......i FELT THE FISH HAD A WEAK KING OR MABY A 9, 9-3 AT BEST, THE TAG CALLS...NOW IF I CALL THE TAG IS ALERTED THAT I HAVE SOME SORT OF HAND HERE, AND UNLESS HE PRETTY STRONG (TP AT LEAST) HES BAILING ON THE TURN WEATHR THE FISH LEADS OR IF HE C/F'S TO MY BET. SO I RAISE TO GET THE EXTRA BET SB NOW. (also charging a possible fl draw)
IF HE IS THAT STRONG HES GONA 3 BET MY FLOP RAISE. aND MORE THEN LIKLY PLAY THE TURN AGRESSIVLY AS WELL, ESPESSALY IF HE HAS A HAND LIKE K9 OR EVEN 33, 99.
Make sence now? looks bad but really i think it was the way to get the absolute most out of the hand at this point.

    *** TURN *** [Kd 3c 9d] [6c]
    LPP - Checks
    TAG - Checks
    HERO - Bets $1
    LPP - Calls $1
    TAG - Folds
as expected the tag was on the steal and was done on the turn. I guess the fish has a king or a 9, eaither way we're goin to value town.

    *** RIVER *** [Kd 3c 9d 6c] [7c]
    LPP - Checks
    HERO - Bets $1
    LPP - Raises $2 to $2
    HERO - Raises $2 to $3
    LPP - Calls $1
    *** SHOW DOWN ***
HERO - Shows [Kc Kh] (Three of a kind, kings)
    LPP - Mucks
SHAKENBAKED Collects $13.80 from main pot

(small blind) HI: [Mucked] [7d 3d]

So he was bein fishy calling down a weak hand then improving to 2nd best. Anyone think if I Raise preflop, Call flop, Raise turn is the best line still?

Reads are Important, Im justreally starting to understand why for the first time. I got caught up in poker by numbers for a long time, then i started playing live. That showed me how much you can up you BB/100 by apply reads, and not just playing by the numbers.

Get weak players in pots with you when you have position and good holdings, don chase them away. Realize when tags are stealing, and get your value in on the flop, as they will mostly bail on the turn UI.

Thats what i learned from my review any way. I hope I contruibuted somthing that will help people play and win atpoker.

No!! why would I raise Pf and scare out 2 Lp's...thats the whole point!! I have great hand and position, i want themin. Look what one of em ends up doin, donkin off money!!! that what we want as poker player, position good hands, and weak oppents in the hand. The whole point is that even though raise/pf is definatly standerd, somtimes dont raise for other reasons

i like the way you think, very insightful commentary on the hand. i am curious, though... how are you able to make a living on $0.50/$1 online poker and $1/$2 live poker (assuming you play in florida where the max bet is $2)? even with bonus whoring, you can't be netting a whole lot at those stakes... or can you?

lol you can. and we have boats that run a regular 2-5 nl game and 5-10 FL game. A also play 50NL online and 1-2FL

Between rake back and bonus whoring there is alot of money to be made. I personally online will never play higher tthen 2-4, there is absolutly no need to unless you really want to make sick money.

Most of my cash does come from live games. I probly net about 250-300 a week from online and maby twice that with live. If you can play 2-3 (preferably) 6 max limit tables for 4-5 hours a day you can get by and build your roll. Mainly i use online to pay bills and somtimes ill cash out a few bennys to fnd the live roll for bigger stakes (5-10 NL comes around and when it does its somthing that cant be missed)

Any way ive learned that having weak players in the pot with you is a good thing. Saying what if he had 45 or whatever is being way to results oriented. Weak players make mistakes, lots of them as illistrated perfectly well in this hand here. The more mistakes players make aginst us the more we profit. Im not saying always play KK like this, im saying use READS not FORMULA. I know for a fact i got as much money out of this hand then anyone could of and i try to do that every time i eneter a pot. or at least lose the least amount. Dont fear suckout embrace them. I f your constantly getting sucked out on it means 1 of 2 things

    Your playing well

    Your opps are making mistakes

    Or both.

See I WANT AN LP TO CALL ME OOP WITH 45s when i have kk every single time. see what i mean.

Find the fish and exploit them, just by being here you can pretty much say you make less mistakes then the average 35/4/1 limidonk. So dont chace them out of pots all the time when you have strong holdings, let themin.

Now of cource you need to protect your hands and raise for value, dont limp AA UTG in a super passive game beacuse you want all 9 fish in with you.

Maby though consider calling a 3 bet if it lets one more in then capping and chasing away a fish holding somthing like A9 or 55.

realize tags and dont play with more then 1 at your table. There are better games somwhere, i promise. Tags take money out of your pocket when your at the table, dont give them the chnce. Find a fishy table all to yourself. What works for me is joining when only 2-3 players are left and let the fish swim to me. So many people come in, buy the min amount in, donk it off with KTsooted, lther, rince, repeat. Why sit with a bunch of nits grinding out trying your hardest to squeeze an extra bet out of good hands here an there, when you can play with weak opps, out play them, and basicly take them to value town.

It tool me a long time to figure out how to be sucsessfull at online and live poker. There are similarities and differences. Poker is poker though, and if you want to win you have to give your self a chance, play pots with fish, stay away from tags, read books, study PT, learn how to use reads. There so much to learn youll never get it all, but be ahead of everyone else, be one step up. Find out how to expliot maniacs, rocks, mice , fish whatever. Soon alot of people will become "fish" to you. Soon any table is a good table. Then move up and start all over agin. the rewards are great

Its a tough way to make an easy living.

    (having a 5-10 game that plays like .25.50 helps too ; )

Also in July FL Kennel clubs will spread 1-2NL and 2-4FL and 2-5 SL

if you come to FL hit it up, the 1-2 NL will play like .1.2 nl, im sure of it

What part of FL are you in? You're probably playing the same 5/10 game at the boat I made my living at for a while ;]
