    Default Cash Out?

    hey guys,

I just wanted to ask around what ppl's cashout policies are. I am by no stretch of the imagination a professional, but I take the game very seriously and would like to occasionally reap the rewards. How can I balance between making some money while steadily increasing the bankroll? I remember using John Vorhaus's technique of doubling up the bankroll and then taking half of the profit. It worked pretty well for awhile until I got my roll up to 400 bucks. Any ideas?

I read on here, Don't cash out until you are fully rolled for the highest level you can comfortably beat. Great advice

i personally didnt cash out untill i was aiming for 100NL. then i was forced to take out $300 for an awsome holiday to dublin. If i were you id try and avoid cashing out until you hit 100NL. after that the amount of cashing out you do relates to howe you progreess.. I think ill take a lot of learning before i can beat 200NL so i may as well cash out some 100NL roll untill i feel comfortable there.

What im doing is bonus whoring, and cashing out the bonuses i get

Keeps your bankroll intact, while giving you nice little packages of cash from time to time- its a charm

I've only cashed out of my casino bankroll, never from my poker roll. I'm not comfortable moving up to 400NL yet, so when my bankroll is sufficient to move up I might cash out some of it. Then again, I might not :P.

    Default Re: Cash Out?

Well, I've always said that poker is about the game for me, not about the money. I want to get the money now so I can get into the higher-stakes games, so cashing out isn't a high priority.

I cashed out a couple of hundred when I first hit $1k and then had a little downswing. I realised I wasn't ready to play $50NL and so I took out a few hundred and carried on until I got back there again.

Once you're up at $50NL you can clear bonuses much more effectively and rakeback becomes more significant.
I'm playing $100NL and am looking at $200 in rb this month; leaving winnings + bonus in your BR and taking out RB when you feel like it can work.

This month I decided I wanted a cashout (to buy some skis ) and so my plan was to play one weekend on Party for a 15% up to $75 bonus.
If I made a loss it came out of my BR, otherwise all profit went to my pocket. I made about $250 (playing lower stakes for lower risk) that weekend including the bonus, so I got a nice bonus for myself and didn't feel like I had "cashed out" at all.

All my BR "lost" was the 1k hands I played that weekend.
    Blah blah Op Blah blah

Don't cash out before 100nl if you absolutely 100% don't have to. It will feel all unfair and shit to begin with because you're like holy shit I've played all this poker and I want to get rewarded for it, but if you eat some of your bankroll now it will take you a lot longer to make it up playing poker than if you wait.

Be patient. Building your bankroll should be a main priority in the part of your life set aside for poker, so don't waste time.

I refuse to cash out until im earning a bit. right now im playing about 2 levels below before i want to cash out. any money i take now could of been invested for bigger future earnings.

I only cash out when I want to buy something that is a more than a few $100, as don't use the bankroll for living expenses so happy to just see it grow. But have the afternoon off work to work shopping so may have to dip in to my bank roll.

I'll star cashing out when I'm rolled for Stars $114 turbos, as I don't think I'll ever move up above the $60 turbos. There's a loooooong way to go before that happens...

Don't cash out till you make $100/hour. If you do you are just limiting your potential.

I have not cashed out anything other then my original deposit, I dont need the money for day to day life, so I will cash it when I need a big expense that I cant afford out of my salary.

I also dont plan to cash anything before I hit 10K profit

If you need $20 or $30 that bad, maybe poker shouldn't be your main concern. You need to build a roll so you can earn decent money. It's like investing, $20 now is $500 later. Stop cashing and get a Job. Leave your BR intact. Quit buying shit, and that's what is, shit. We all know someone with a $400 or $500 bankroll ain't cashing out any significant money anyway, why bother.

A possible exception is to cash out to buy "shit" like PT, PAHUD and perhaps a new monitor. If a cash out will help your game then I think it's perfectly acceptable.

absolutely, it comes down to investments vs. spending. Those are investments and can come from your BR. You can play without them at the $5NL and $10NL stakes and earn the $50 or so to buy them. You'll only need to stay another week at that level to make it back. As for the monitor, that's later I'm sure. I don't think anyone starting out needs to multitable 6 or more and have no overlap right away. Learn to win at 2 or 3 tables, then move on up to bigger and better.

that is great advice trainer_jyms!! if u can abstain from withdrawing- DO SO!! like someone said earlier $100 now could've easily been $1,ooo later... a Bankroll is just that; NOT a checking acct.

so if i give you 5$ can you make it into $100 for me?

This is exactly what I plan on doing. I am a college student who is lucky enough to have his parents pay for his school [includes housing and meal plan, etc.] so my expenses are incredibly low. I want to take advantage of the fact that I dont need to live off of my poker profits so all of the money I earn will stay in my roll. However, a lot of people keep rakeback and bonuses as part of their roll, I don't. Bonuses are just that, bonuses, you dont get them because you are good at poker you get them because you played, so adding them to your roll IMO is a little deceiving. More of an argument can be mdae for keeping rakeback in your roll, but I still dont really think its a great idea. I have all my rakeback payments go to neteller instead of my poker accounts, this basically forces me to keep the money separate and still gives me some extra money if needed without withdrawing from my roll.

I never cashed out until I reached 100NL. Now I cash out $100 a day everyday. Of course I have to make $100+. The rest is left for my bankroll. I only did this because I needed the extra income. My roll is barely good enough for 200NL now, but if I hadn't been cashing out I could be beating that game by now instead of just testing the waters whenever I see a few known fish at the tables. But like I said, for me the cashout was necessary, if I just wanted to buy "stuff" I would have left it in.

With the enormous possible deposit bonuses now I like to think of those as my profits while Im building a roll. Say it takes you 15K hands to clear a $600 bonus, hopefully by then your playing roll will have grown substantially for the next level and you will be able to take out the bonus as a reward for yourself. Personally, after my next bonus ($550+RB) I am going to purchase another monitor if not an entirely new desktop.
